NPP implosion

It fit’s the narrative mentioned earlier. It would fit NPP’s narrative. Does it sound like they actually care? Probably not.

NPP chairman Xu Yongming was investigated for the newest round of corruption scandal. Allegedly accepting at least 800K NTD from former CEO of Sogo, in his attempt to change the laws so that he can regain control of Sogo from the Far Eastern group.

Several young NPP city councilors around Taiwan, including high profile ones like Huang Jie from Kaohsiung city, advocated for the party to temporarily suspend Xu’s party duties until the end of the investigation.

However, they were met with dismissive language from party insiders and attacked by anonymously released false statements claiming that the city councilors want Xu to resign or they would quit NPP, which none of them actually said.

That was the last straw for two NPP Taipei city councilors, Lin Ying-meng and Huang Yu-fen. They were fed up with having no way to communicate with the party, despite holding public elected positions, and the culture of party higher echelon resorting to releasing fake information to the press to get rid of members they do not like. They jointly announced to leave NPP.

Xu Yongming later stepped down as party chairman himself. Former party chairman Chiu Hsien-chih stepped in to act as temporary chairman.

How is it that Sogo is involved in every scandal here, ever? And where’s the learning curve? Don’t pick up the phone to Sogo.

Both Pacific Sogo’s Li Heng-rong and Far Eastern’s Douglas Hsu (Hsu-dong) probably all used some dirty tricks under the table to get what they want. It’s just that Hsu is better at this game than Li.

His name is more commonly romanized as Hsu Yung-ming (徐永明).

The Taipei Times has more details on this ugly scandal and its impact on Hsu and the NPP:

I have a habit of romanizing shady and/or pro-China politicians’ name in Hanyu Pinyin. I think it’s what they’d wanted deep in their hearts.

You would think they could hide it better.
