Nutrition for Dummies in Chinese?

I need a book about nutrition in Chinese for someone who thinks cake is one of the 5 food groups… Anyone?

Can you get this someone to explain why the bread tastes sweet like cake and the deserts often taste bland and not very sweet.

I’ve been here nearly 5 years and still can’t understand the logic of non sweet deserts and bucket loads of sugar in the veg/ meat dishes.

Regarding the Chinese nutrition books. I can’t read much of the Chinese but would be concerned that they lag the west in noticing that the food pyramid was and still is a load of crap.

Bread rant… I was buying bread yesterday from a bakery in Hsinchu that makes non sweet and non packed with shortening bread, good grain and white bread in other words that you can choose to add jam/ jelly and butter/ olive oil as you want and allow the different tastes and textures to mix in your mouth.

The poor lady cooks were enormous and probably don’t really understand why they became bulging bags of fat after opening a bakery and having unfettered access to carb city.

cake IS one of the 5 food groups in Taiwan!

The other 4 food groups include:

grease & oil (usually combined with salt & MSG)

Rice

vegetarian (with bits of meat)

and Rice

Naw. I don’t want to deal with him having a heart failure in bed or anything else that happens to people who bloat up to 100000000 stone after pounding down pound cake for breakfast.
That and I’m a nag.

Oh just let them have their cake and eat it, ya old nag.

You could try searching the Eslite site for known authors.

Found this from Atkins:

Any nutrition info is a start.

Maybe one motivation could be age. We know food ages us. I think the conversion of food into energy that creates free radicals. Maybe it’s sugar (glucose) specifically. Present some info about food and aging; maybe that’ll get the person going.

Or this. Found it thru a list of best self-help nutrition books.

I don’t want him on Atkins. Like I said, no heart attacks in bed.
Besides, I’m not trying to make him lose weight. General health is more important than shedding a few pounds.

What’s wrong with eating cake? Jeeze! Most women complain about greasy hamburgers, beer, smoking, drugs, drinking, infidelity, couch potatoism, limp dick, hair loss, halitosis, hanging out with the guys too much, latent homosexuality, internet porn, gambling and not making enough money.

So far, this guy is a morning person who likes cake. :raspberry: :noway:

If you want a guy with some real problems for you to complain about complain about I’ll date ya!

 It wasn’t a recommentaton for Atkins but a desire to learn about as many aspects of nutrition as possible. But maybe that isn’t the goal.

A) No one said this was my man.
b) The only complaint I have about my man is bad breath and the fact that he wakes up cheery… and that he sleeps all day
c) if this is for my man (which it is, but no one said it was) it isn’t a complaint as much as a wishing for him to learn healthy eating habits. When he is with me (which is an awful lot) he eats healthy. But he always asks why this and what about that and giving him a book is easier than always explaining metabolic rates and BTI and shit.
Besides, if he knows the general idea he can eat healthy in a way that suits his taste buds instead of in a way that suits mine.

If a man pays too much attention to his food, it could mean he’s turning homo (disclaimer: not that there is anything wrong with that). Start worrying about his diet when he stops banging you twice a day (or if over 33, once a day).

almas, I date the kind of men you would probably think are homo.
One of the main reasons I rarely date western men is that I just don’t see how a girl can get into a guy who takes bad care of his body or doesn’t pay attention to his hair and clothes.

I can understand why you might want a guy who takes care of his body (I often wonder why some of my guy-friends don’t) but honestly the guys who preoccupy their time with their hair and clothes are awfully gay - and I don’t even mean in the literal sense of the word (though they may be, that I don’t know).

That’s not to say that you shouldn’t give a shit… but if you’re spending more than a few minutes a day worrying about your hair and you’re a guy you have problems. Likewise, if your idea of a good time is shopping for clothes your pendulum is swinging a little too close to the rainbow.

Back to the taking care of the body thing too… most ‘real’ guys I know do it much more for themselves than for others. The ones who do it for show are, um, well, you know.

Just my opinion though.

I belive bruce lee wrote that beer and bread is only a sorce too quick carbohydrates that will make you fat.
Obusly the chinese has ben knowing this for a long time, but maybe Taiwan lost it in the conversion to a more western life style.

Well I am completely convinced that people here don’t actually give a fuck about their health, they only care that people around them think they do. This is obvious in eating habits, the apathetic exercise, the taking 100000 pills for a runny nose, and in many other aspects. It’s okay if you die at 50 if your family says you tried not to.

I’m confused. Didn’t you just say you don’t date western men cuz they don’t take care of their body?

Westerners don’t even put on the front.

You must know quite the collection of foreigners then (and Taiwanese too).

See, this is gonna cause some controversy, but from what I can see here in Taiwan is that a large proportion of the western men exercise, take care of themselves, etc. But with regards to the women, you see a lot more that are overweight and unkempt.

As I told my one friend back home, you take a random sample of 100 foreigners here and 100 locals back home and you’d find that the average western guy in Taiwan is ahead of the average guy back home in respect to appearance. Conversely, the average woman in Taiwan would be far behind the average one back home.

My guess is that’s because the guys do well with Taiwanese and thus make the effort whereas most women are bitter, loveless creatures who’ve given up. Also, I think it takes a ‘special kind’ woman to come over here sans significant other but the guy would be an outgoing, adventurous type. Hypocritical viewpoint? Maybe. But it suits one group better than the other.
