By all that’s holy - 250 quid (just over NT$15k) for an economy return in November? This can’t be true!
Flying from here to HK than onward to your destination Europe won’t be that much of a saving over traditional carriers. It’s time some company starts out here in Taiwan.
Just shows how backward Taiwan’s aviation rules are … there would be a huge market here in Taiwan for low cost carriers, just think about the routes in Asia already …

True, but it’s a start in the low-cost market in Asia. Now we just need a no-frills return to HK for NT$3k…

There are many low-cost carriers in Asia … just not in this part because of the protective measures Japan, Taiwan and China have set up
Intra-Asian flights are pretty much no-frills anyway. Tiny seats and no service. Christ I’d nearly stand if they gave me a six-pack for the duration.
And the flight to London is hell-on-earth in economy anyway. Sitting in a tiny seat surrounded by screaming children on Cathay is not a whole lot better than sitting in a tiny seat surrounded by screaming children on some other airline. How come Cathay are charging so much? Just fill economy with bunk beds, rip out the costly IFE, and have three call buttons: (1) Mogadon; (2) Lager; (3) Hamburger and chips.
Done. Four hundred happy campers in economy. 100% loadings. Low-cost.
And then you can send all the trolley dollies up to business to pamper the millionaires. Can’t fail.

But alcohol on Oasis is not free, so what’s the cost? They state that the only alcohol used on board should be theirs not BYO.
In the end if you don’t start from HK end don’t stop in London, your cost could be as high as a regular flight …

One perfectly fine day our beloved and lucid Lord Lucan will be promoted to a position of power and prestige, and one too that rewards him with his capacity to spend. On that superb day, the world truly will be a better place.

Yes. Once I’ve tacked on the HK flight and the Ireland flight, it’s all much of a muchness. Probably.
The cheapest return flight with Oasis to Gatwick is 3,643 HK$ (15,390NT$) , let’s say from TPE to HK … 10,000 NT$ return if you want a direct connection without waiting to long .
Gatwick to Brussels 8,000 NT$ … total 33,390 NT$ and I need to pay for my drinks on the plane. I guess It’s not cost effective to fly with them. What’s my gain?

Well, since this is Gatwick rather than Heathrow, there are conveniently some very cheap flights to Norn Iron, especially Belshaft City. Last time I went, that part was about a tenner each way.
Plans to expand as well . . . the carrier is hoping to launch flights from Hong Kong to more European and US hubs in the future, including Berlin, Cologne, Milan, San Francisco and Chicago.
Not good for everyone but if you use frequent flyer miles for the Taipei to Hong Kong flight then its a cheap way at the moment to get to London anyway.
That’s another story … you need to book with each airline seperate and your flights need to be convenient within an hour or three waiting … than if they don’t check your luggage through you need to check in and collect three times …
Last time I went home Paris to Dublin was NT$8,000 and you can’t even smoke when you get there. So all that money I saved flying Bubble Gum Airlines via Ulaan Bator and stepping over dead bodies and dirty nappies in Charles de Gaulle didn’t really make up for it. It all hinges on how much they charge for drink on the plane.
its BYOB. Just get one of those plastic containers, fill up your favorite beer or mixer. People used to ask me if I was carrying apple juice when it was really beer. save money there big time. fill up a 2L with jack and coke, or just jack then get the free coke from the air hostess. that can last you for a bit.
Yeah, actually what could they do to you … throw you of the plane in flight
fine you? Or take away your return ticket and blacklist ye’
Just don’t go sneaking off to the toliets to mix up your Bundie and coke these days or Christ knows what they’ll do to you.

Cool your jets, flyboys.
Moscow grounds Oasis on first day
Thursday, October 26, 2006
The first flight of local long-haul budget carrier Oasis Hong Kong Airlines was aborted Wednesday before the aircraft even left its berth at Hong Kong International Airport.
Oasis was forced to cancel its inaugural cut-price flight when it was denied permission to fly through Russian airspace.
Some 300 passengers, including Oasis chairman Raymond Lee Cheuk- man and chief executive Stephen Miller, were stuck in one of its two Boeing 747 jumbo jets for nearly six hours awaiting Russian approval.
“It’s extremely unfortunate and we are very disappointed,” Oasis commercial director Ken Chad said. “We are doing all we can to resolve the problem.”
He said the carrier hoped to fly to London’s Gatwick Airport at 1pm today and would seek alternative routes if it failed to win Russian approval.
“We are in talks with the Russian authorities,” Chad said. “We paid for the overfly rights and we got the approval code, and yet at the last minute they held us up. We have not had any explanation.”
The airline said in a statement it will offer a HK$500 transportation fee to all local residents involved, free accommodation and food for foreign travelers, as well as a free flight voucher.
However, several passengers were heard demanding more compensation from the airline, saying their holiday plans had been ruined.
