This is amazing. Obama says the rich are not responsible for their wealth. I don’t know how they do it in the jungle deserts of Kenya, but in the U.S. of A we Americans all work on our own to create our OWN wealth. Kill all socialists.

Nothing was taken out of context. I read the whole speech and it made it worse.
Obama made it very clear that if you had a successful business, it was due to everyone else supposedly building roads, dams, etc. Except only people that PAY TAXES paid to build those roads, dams, etc. The rest just freeload off the work paid for by others.
And even if there are roads, etc., that does NOT mean “everyone” is responsible for someone’s business success. It’s ridiculous.
So if the rich pay more in taxes to build those roads, etc., then did they pay for their own success? If so, why can’t they take more credit?
If you have a successful business but according to Obama you “didn’t build that on your own” then is everyone else to blame for failed businesses? Or does that street only work one way?

In the speech, Obama gave numerous examples of people he knew that got government assistance along their paths to success. What about people who DID NOT get that help? Who’s responsible for their success? Those who are actually in business will tell you that government red tape is a MAJOR hurdle to setting up and running a business. More government is a hindrance, not a help.
This speech was really eye opening. It very clearly shows just how far out left Obama really is.

I don’t think you can blame people for believing that Obama insulted small business owners, because it is being presented that way on all the right wing news: Fox especially. Romney is running attack ads saying the same thing.
Romney has a big advantage with this kind of sleazy propaganda. Democrats take things out of context too, but it never gets the validation from the news networks that Fox gives to anything anti-Obama.
No man is an island. Everyone who ever succeeded did so because of some kind of help from others.
Don’t read a transcript of the speech: you need to listen to the speech, with the intonations, pauses, etc., since it’s part of the nature of human speech. Don’t listen to Fox News’s analysis, because they are lying to you. Listen to the speech.
His entire theme is that when people create things, it’s because of human interaction. An inspirational teacher. Infrastructure that has been built.

The wording “If you own a business, you didn’t make that!” was pounced on here as too good to pass up.
That statement was 100% taken completely out of context. Obama’s full statement was:
He was talking about the roads and bridges etc. That’s crystal clear.
However since Obama has tossed up this really great but unfortunately obvious misquote, of course the Republicans are going to come up with reasons why it means what they really want it to mean.
If Obama hadn’t used that convenient wording, no one would be talking about this speech at all.
It would put an entirely new spin on politics if we went back to the methods of the 1800s, when you had to actually read the whole speech (or attend it). These days, sound bytes are destroying the intelligence of everyone, and not just in the realm of politics – though politics is infamous for their misuse.

Yes, he was talking about roads and bridges and how you have a successful business because of them. That’s complete BS.
His grandpa owned a house thanks in part to government assistance so EVERYONE that owns a house needs to thank the government. “You didn’t get that on your own.” Yes, some people did.
The truth is it isn’t taken out of context AT ALL. The fact that he was referring to infrastructure doesn’t make it a misquote, as the left wants to spin this. Obama and his ilk truly think that your success (if you have any) only came because of government spending. He has NEVER owned or started a business in his whole life. He has no idea what business owners go through in fighting government regulation to open their businesses and does not care because he’s above all that.

Exactly. Al Gore never said he “invented the Internet.” But he did pioneer the effort to promote and introduce policy that brought the Internet out of restricted academic and military circles into the mainstream.

Back to the point of Obama’s speech: Try running a business without the communications infrastructure we have (which you didn’t build). Postal systems, Internet, telephones, etc. Try shipping your products without roads, bridges, airports. Try selling things without customers to buy them. Try gaining the knowhow to build a business without someone to teach you how - a teacher, a parent, a mentor, an author. The point is, that your business depends on there being other people.
I challenge you: go to a deserted island and try setting up a business. See how that works out for you.
Building a business takes hard work, initiative and ingenuity. And Obama said that in his speech (yet the righties totally ignore that bit). But you can’t do it alone.
People do it at Grand Cayman all time. Sparely populated, basic infrastructure (Airport and electricity), and banking, investment and insurance businesses have no problem at all. 
Obama overstates the importance of government, teachers etc. If you want to learn how not to become a risk taker and entrepreneur—you get mentored by a teacher.
Same with infrastructure. The world is full of empty stadiums, ports etc. that were built upon political arrogance.
Businesses want stability, less regulations and red tape, and they want to be left the fuck alone (unless you are Solyndra leeches).
Having Obama say businesses owe their success to government and teachers sounds like Obama is listening to his Bachelor of Public Administration advisors/statists on staff that need reaffirmation of their career decisions ahahahahah.

From his/her parents and through his/her own desire to learn/self improvement. Two things that are 100X more important than mediocre public teachers that are a dime a dozen. A person with great nurturing parents and a willingness to learn will succeed no matter how bad his/her teachers are.

Firstly, no one said it had to be public teachers. It could be parents, private school teachers, whatever. As long as somebody has taught that child some basics at some point in his/her life, Obama’s statement rings true.
Secondly, Obama is not referring only to government. He’s clearly talking about America and American society as a whole. There is nobody in America today at any level of success that has done it 100% on their own. Nobody.
