Objectivity and bias in media

Would I lie to you…would i say something that wasn’t true

That’s an Amazing screenshot. Don’t let your unquestioned support of a criminal gangster dictator who you will support no matter what get in the way of your understanding of democracy.

The thing you don’t understand is that Trump isn’t actually the president. WaPo and the MSM are all actually lying about that too. President Sanders is so brilliant that he’s manipulated the whole lying media to lie about Trump being in office so he can operate under the radar to enact his wealth redistribution plan. Its just you sheeple don’t see it.

Quite Easily Deceived

By The Gangster Dictator, it would seem.

idk where you want to go from there, given that you seem to seek some kind of terse compromise in American political discourse. Headed nowhere, but that seems to be the norm.

Try taking Trump and his achievements seriously instead. Ignore Trump the cretin - which he most assuredly is. No doubt … yet irrelevant in terms of achievement. No?

Can you do that? If so, doesn’t it seem like the most natural platform for an honest discussion of what’s really going on, a rational discussion of his achievements to date?

The media can’t be trusted right? So any appeal to truth or honesty from Team Conspiracy Theory evaporates with that.

It’s a bit early and I can’t get into this today. But here’s a deep thought man:

If the media is lying, then its also lying to you that it’s lying. Which means it’s actually telling truth because lying about lying is telling the truth.

Meditate on that for a while bro

Wow. Deep. I will dwell in the eternal land of chamomile or perhaps elsewhere until you’re into something other than surface lib politics.

I hope you win a medal from the media in the meantime. I’m sure they love you, you’re their very best customer after all.

Peace.

That was the expected reply “it happened”. So now I have to spell out what I am talking about which is spin. When does spin become so bad it becomes dishonest?

I also need to use Reductio ad absurdum to make my point, so my cards are on the table, but then you are the one failing to acknowledge the point.

There was a press conference in Iraq (if I recall correctly) where a reporter threw a shoe at President Bush. If the media tried to turn that into a sound bite “Bush kicks reporter out of press conference” and fails to mention the reporter threw a shoe, they are not actually lying.

I can do what you just did and post a clip and say “see”. This is called spin, it is one form of dishonesty in the media. We will discuss others, with examples, but I am not done yet with spin, but first an acknowledgement from you what is being discussed.

What is your take on that? Since the media is lying to us, tell us what really happened.

While you’re at it, please give us the real scoop on what happened in the following incidents. Since they are all spin and you know the real truth, please educate me:

Below we provide a running list of attacks that the president has made on the press since assuming office. We’ll keep this list updated since, unfortunately, we don’t expect them to stop.

Trump has:

  1. Praised [20]a violent attack on a reporter by Montana Rep. Greg Gianforte.

  2. Presided over a Justice Department investigation [21]in which years’ worth of email and phone records belonging to a New York Times reporter were seized in connection with a leak investigation.

  3. Threatened to change libel laws [22] to make it easier to sue publishers and news organizations following the release of an unflattering book.

  4. Threatened legal action [23] against a journalist and publisher over a book that includes critical statements about him.

  5. Demanded the Washington Post fire [24] a reporter over an inaccurate tweet about the crowd size at a Trump rally, which the reporter apologized for and deleted.

  6. Urged people to sue [25] ABC News over a retracted report, which Trump claimed caused the stock market to fall and investors to lose money.

  7. On the day that Russia enacted [26] restrictions on foreign news outlets, tweeted: “CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!” He then called for [27] a contest between CNN and other outlets, apart from Fox, to see which has “the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me).”

  8. Said it is “frankly disgusting [28] the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write” in a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

  9. Threatened [29] to cancel [30] the broadcast licenses of media companies that offer negative coverage of him.

  10. Had the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, call on ESPN to fire Jemele Hill [31] for criticizing him.

  11. Tweeted mocking images of him wrestling a CNN reporter [32] and his campaign hitting a CNN reporter with a train [33].

  12. Overseen a Justice Department review [34] of policies for subpoenaing media organizations in an effort to crack down on both whistleblowers and journalists. As of November 2017, investigations of leaks by the department reportedly grew 800 percent [35] under Jeff Sessions.

  13. Pledged to “fight the #FakeNews [36]” with a Polish leader hostile to press freedom.

  14. Attacked reporters while speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin [37], who has fostered a climate of violence [38] against [39] journalists [40].

  15. Said that his mission to “drain the swamp” begins “with the Fake News! [41]”

  16. Reportedly asked then-FBI Director James Comey to jail [42] reporters who publish classified information.

  17. Tasked his former chief of staff with looking into changing the country’s libel laws [43].

  18. Explored the prosecution of WikiLeaks [44] for publishing CIA and State Department materials.

  19. Labeled the “fake news” media “the enemy of the people [45].”

  20. Accused the media of lying [46] about his “very nice” conversation with the Australian prime minister. Ultimately, a leaked transcript [47] of the call showed it was Trump who was lying.

  21. Urged someone to buy the New York Times to “either run it correctly or let it fold [48].”

  22. Said members of the “Fake News & totally dishonest Media” have “become crazed lunatics [49] who have given up on the TRUTH!”

  23. Threatened to pull credentials of reporters [50] who write “negative” stories about him while admitting he considers negative media coverage to be “Fake”: “91% of the Network News about me is negative (Fake). Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt? Take away credentials?”

  24. Called for a federal investigation [51] into “Saturday Night Live” after watching a rerun of an episode parodying him.

  25. Wondered why “the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution [52]?”

  26. Tweeted that the “Fake News is the absolute Enemy of the People and our Country itself [53]!”

  27. Unsuccessfully tried to rescind [54] the press credentials of CNN journalist Jim Acosta.

  28. Said that he is “entitled [55]” to have “great” stories published about him in the New York Times.

  29. Lauded [56] Brazil’s authoritarian president for denouncing the “fake news.”

  30. Announced plans to boycott [57] presidential debates held by “Fake News Networks.”

While Trump tries to portray journalists at the “enemies” of Americans, it’s his attacks on the press that amount to an assault on the cornerstone of American democracy: the First Amendment.

Only 57?! Phfft.

Not so bad, then, really.

Are you trying to imply Trump should not express his disdain for the msm ? If I had the time , I could list 20 instances of blatant lying by msm against trump … which may give the underlying causation . Trump had lied … they all seem to lie . All in all , the shutting down of dissent , easily disguised as “ hate speech “ is heavily biased against the “ right” . I’m sure you are aware of that , bleat as you may about Trump. His only weapon is to make people aware perhaps . Watching the “ spin “ , as @Mick said , on the stories like Covington , kavanaugh, smollet and so many other stories has switched everyone off in terms of veracity , with a lot of your posts listed . I think it’s good that you post because the more information, the better . In the end msm are too partisan to be taken seriously …but they should still exist and be able to print and broadcast drivel

Let’s just get to the point. Replace the word “MSM” with 'luegenpresse" going forward.

How can you ‘switch off’ from ideas you never listen to in the first place because they come from the luegenpresse?

It’s not the medias job to tell you what you want to hear or support a dictator out of obligation. That’s un-American.

It’s your right to support a dictator no matter what he does. But if you do, at least own it. Stop hiding behind conspiracy theories.

Adios amigo

I don’t appear to have the same level of cognitive dissonance in this case . Most sources of information are opinion pieces or written to promote an agenda . I try to read the News from several sources and make my own assessment , which I may modify as more information appears . I don’t only choose sources that I may feel mirror my political leanings.
If you take a breath …read what you wrote above …and interchange "right " for "left " , it is a circular argument that works for both sides .
Your implication that I don’t listen to the stories , simply based upon their source , is not correct .
Rather like pollsters , I try to apply filters …I know Fox will be juxtaposed to CNN, but I hope that I decide on a mix of information . I agree that Trump should be called out for some things …I hope you agree Comey and co should also be called out for some things . As you said , I hope you don’t “switch off” , because Trump may on occasion actually be proven correct . It’s fine for us to arrive at different conclusions .

There’s a difference between thinking critically and factoring bias vs. creating a conspiracy theory discrediting media aka the luegenpresse entirely. Can you understand that difference?

Assuming a hidden agenda is paranoid, and the sites/people that do have an agenda are projecting it onto media. It’s the other way around sir.

You just blew a reasonable argument …and your whole point …by editing the post I was replying to …and adding " It’s your right to support a Dictator " and the creme de la creme " Stop hiding behind conspiracy theories ":joy: hmmm I seem to recall that you were pretty convinced about Russia Russia?
You were doing so well …but it’s pretty clear that you will neveralter your opinion . I may . Let’s see.

I have no convictions on this issue and I’m following the story as it unfolds as it is ongoing. It seems your mind is made up already. Again, projection.

The topic isn’t Russia or my personal political opinions. It’s objectivity and bias in media. Our fair moderator has encouraged us to stay on topic, so let’s try to respect that.

It’s always Russia

Now that’s what I’m talking about. If we’re gonna peddle conspiracy theories, they should at least be funny and involve aquatic mammals.
