The NY Weenie Yankers are the biggest joke in professional sports since the Dallas Cowboys. Another overpaid, over-hyped loser franchise more worried about selling merchandise and seats than having a team that’s worth half of what the players are paid. Good riddance to another commercialized bullshit sports team.
I sense a lot of hate for the Yankees on this thread.
I don’t hate them, I respect them as a great baseball team–the best ever, historically. But I tend to root against them anyway because I love underdogs. More than any other sport, baseball has a way of spreading success around to everybody, even the small-market teams. The only guys that can’t seem to win a World Series are the Cubs.
On the other hand, if you look at, say, the NBA, it’s always the same few teams contending for the title, mainly because superstars have a much greater impact on the success of a team, and superstars will only play in certain places. That’s why my Jazz can never seem to win a title.
But hey, at least I’m not a Clippers fan, right?
The Yankees are a love/hate team for many. They probably have the biggest fanbase but they are also the most hated team by far. Some fans like you simply cheer against them because you like the little guy but many despise them because for so long they have just been able to go out and buy the next player to plug a hole with their 200M payroll. I have been waiting for this reckless spending and age to catch up to them and I am loving it that they face some serious issues. Of course they still won 95 games but the horizon looks bleak with ARod and Tex taking up close to 55M while being average at best players.

San Francisco is still in it! Go Giants! They pulled through today with a 5-0 win. It was a great game to watch! Looking forward to Sunday’s game in San Francisco.
The STL-SF is turning out to be a good series even though I don’t really favor either team (they are each responsible for downing the Phillies in recent years). Anyway, today’s matchup ought to be good. Vogelsong has been tight and its tough to bet against Carpenter. It looked like STL was on a roll with even the replacement for Beltran getting a game wnning hit but SF has already proved they do not die easily. Coin flip (yes, I really flipped a coin on this one) says…STL. Beltran homers.
Vogelsong is hot. I hope Carpenter shows up this time. Cards really need a good game from him. Winning one of these two games is going to be tough for the Red Birds.
Been on a natural high all day today after the 9-0 whomping of the Cards.
But the question I have is does anyone know of any sports bar in Taipei that will be open early and have the World Series on? I’m so bummed that I’m not back home in the Bay so I was hoping to catch the WS live. I’ve been streaming the rest of the season and post-season on my laptop but would like to catch the Giants stomp on the Tigers live.
Thanks in advance everyone.
It’s all live on ESPN here.
Yeah, I know but I just thought it would be more fun to watch it at a bar, hoping there are others there with the same intention, and throwing back a few brews.
Let me know if you find a decent bar showing it live, considering that will mean watching it in the morning here. For years I’ve been looking for a cool hang out that serves bourbon for brunch
You should call the Brass Monkey. They will be showing Linsanity games in the mornings, but they don’t have the World Series listed on their website.
Darn, I just called the Brass Monkey and they’re not going to be showing the game tomorrow. Bummer! I’ll keep looking and if I find anything I’ll post it here.
EDIT: Just called up The Tavern and they’re not showing it either.
I guess it’s streaming on my laptop after all. Or go to a friends house to watch it live on ESPN.

That’s pretty frigging lame. There must be some bar out there showing the games! I’d love to go watch one Sunday morning.
So what happened to Justin Verlander today? When I turned on the TV this morning, the Tigers were down 6 to 1, and Verlander wasn’t even pitching anymore! I did get to see Tim Lincecum, though, and he looked like he’d gotten his mojo back. Valverde, however, seemed decidedly mojo-free.
Go figure - I think most (including myself) expected Verlander to dominate and Zito to if not struggle at least not control the Tigers as he did. Having said that both seemed to stay true to form - Verlander is rapidly developing a reputation for not bringing it when it really counts and Zito has now pitched 2 damn good high pressure games for the Giants. I am not a big Giants fan (still have nightmares of Cody F’in Ross in 2010) but I have to admit they are on a roll right now.
Definition of a Roll:
Better than expected pitching. Broken bat RBIs. Base-hitting singles. 3-homer games. Not lucky…on a roll. Things may change.
During league play, I think the NL sees more quality fast ball pitchers than the AL. Verlander isn’t nearly as threatening to NL hitters as he is to AL hitters (definitely true for the Giants’ Sandoval).
Barry Zito, holy crap break out the Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden the 90s are back.
Seriously, I’m interested to see if Zito’s 73-84mph junk will have the same lingering effect on Tigers hitting as it seemed to on the Cardinals. Like knuckleballers, effective, soft-tossing pitchers can crawl right up in a hitter’s head (wait wait WAIT) and make the the next pitcher’s (Bumgardner) fastball even faster. The Cardinals never recovered from Zito.
I just ended up watching at my friends house. Would’ve been nice if there were a bar to booze at. Oh well, I guess if you don’t have a Taiwanese player on your team, most Taiwanese businesses won’t care. Darn, if only the Orioles made it…lol
Is it possible that the Tigers will not only be swept but not even score a run!!??
Tigers in 7!
Prince Fielder needs to chill out and stop trying to hit a home run on every pitch. In fact, all of the Tigers need to look at San Francisco’s laid-back attitude and remember that baseball is still just a game. When you’re 3-0 down, you have nothing to lose–just go out and have fun!
With that in mind, I hope the Tigers went old school last night and got falling down, shit-faced drunk. Sometimes nothing brings a good ball team out of a hitting funk* like a bleeding-eyes hangover. And surely it couldn’t hurt.
