This is the first version I recall hearing of “Man of Constant Sorrow,” although I’m not sure that Peter, Paul, and Mary were the first ones I ever heard singing it. When I was a kid, I attended the wedding of one of my cousins, and afterwards the young adults went to a motel, and for some reason they let me tag along. Everybody was singing folk songs, which somebody accompanied on guitar. I guess that finally someone from the management must have asked them to tone it down, because I can remember one of the participants jokingly saying they were all going to leave and take their business to the Admiral Benbow Inn (not the one in Treasure Island, but rather a branch of the now-defunct American motel chain by that name). I’m not sure that this song was sung during that gathering, but I think it must have been making the rounds among folk music fanciers.
Sorry for the boring autobiographical note.
Failures day!
Trying over and over the same word, failing one letter. Same with Quordle.
