This thing is fierce, in my opinion. I think maybe I should use this lucky win as an opportune occasion to retire from Octordle.

I should have taken the advice in my post above.

This thing is a little bit on the fierce side. Anyway, okay, calf rope!

So far I’ve successfully solved only 13 Octordle puzzles in 28 attempts. That’s about 46.4 percent. That’s not too good.

I think I’d better quit while I’m ahead before I get any farther behind.
I hadn’t learned my lesson yet; I had to try one more time.

I just lost, but I’m sort of pleased anyway, because I got the opportunity to try a little experiment. I don’t want to describe the experiment, because, while I don’t think it was exactly cheating (I didn’t look at any answer key or use any kind of reference book or any kind of outside assistance), I do think it was somewhat unsportsmanlike.
But who knows? Maybe it wouldn’t turn out to be consistently successful. After all, even though I’m pleased with tonight’s results, I didn’t win the game.
Anyway, here’s my loss:

No one will care if you are cheating or not. This kind of game is more about challenging yourself.
If you found a new strategy, kudos to you!

It seems your new strategy worked today!
I’d like to think so. But whether the new strategy or just luck, I’m happy with how it turned out.
Thanks for noticing!
Oops, I failed this time.

Here’s what I was trying to do:
I found this notion of letter frequency (which I wouldn’t swear by, but I figured it would do):
I forgot where I originally found it, but you can see it here:
Then I just formed four words from it: riots, clean, dumps, and baggy.
Then I just typed those words into Octordle, one after the other, and went looking to see what I’d got in the eight squares. It worked the time before last, but it didn’t set the world on fire.
And as you can see by my failure (above), it’s not exactly a handy-dandy, surefire method. But I may stick with it awhile, since the way I was doing things before was very unsatisfactory.
I used three of the words–riots, clean, and dumps–on the Quordle I did tonight (or rather, this morning–it’s oh-dark-thirty right now). And it seemed to work pretty well. However, for all I know, the old “pondering and guessing” method that I used before might have worked just as well. And this method still involves pondering and guessing.
Caveat: If anyone decides to use this idea, don’t blame me if it doesn’t work.
