I went to B&Q and Costso the other day thinking I’d find something acceptable… didn’t. Went to 9*9 thinking they’d have something semi-reasonable, they don’t (they have those hanging file joints.)
Where can I go and have a selection (even if a small one) of File Cabinets. I would have even been happy getting a little plastic box type one for what I want to do with it. I figured one of those places would have at least had that (maybe B&Q did and I missed it.)
Suggestions? Is there and “office store” street I don’t know about?
Sorry, don’t know the name of the street. Lots of furniture shops in a street very near the Tonghua St. night market. Some of them sell office-type furniture of the grey metal filing cabinet sort.
And in the true spirit of “you should have mentioned this last month,” our office was giving truckloads of the things away a while back. You could of had your pick…
Sorry, that was just to piss you off. But that furniture street really does have them.
I bought some American file cabinets at Costco a couple years ago, they’re designed to hold manilla folders if you put use the pockets that came with them. but you can leave them out if you just want drawer space. Also bought the manilla folders there.
I’ve also seen the cabinets there on recent Costco trips. I’ve discovered that the Costco in Neihu often temporarily runs out of stock until the next ship comes to Taiwan. At least that’s what the service desk told me when I asked why they don’t have Pop Tarts on the shelves every day of the week like they should. And why don’t they import blueberry Pop Tarts anymore?
Sorry about the tangent, if you go back in a week you might find what you’re looking for.
I’ve also bought cabinets at HOLA in the basement of B&Q in Shilin.
Yeah, I thought it was strange that Costco had manila folders and no file cabinets. I’ll take a look at the Neihu branch if I don’t find what I’m looking for a little closer to home (in Yonghe.)
“Spring cleaning” (dasaochu) is coming soon (before Spring Festival/Chinese New Year). If you can hold out for a couple of weeks, you might find some freebies by the side of the road.
p.s. When dasouchu time comes around, make sure and keep your bicycle indoors. The recyclers/scavengers tend to get a bit overenthusiastic.
Go to your nearest mom & pop furniture store. They have a stack of big phone-book sized catalogs with all kinds of things they don’t have room to stock, with a nice clear picture of each item. You should be able to find what you want in the book and then make a deal for them to order it and deliver it to you. If you can assemble it yourself that’ll usually let you chop a bit more off the price. (And you can make another furniture assembly video for your blog.) Though I guess a filing cabinet wouldn’t need much assembly. My experience is that usually they can get things next-day.
Went to the spot under the Zhongzheng bridge and they had stuff (and catalogs too I’m sure.) I didn’t buy anything from there though. I went to Costco again, and for 299 they had a box full of legal folder boxes (6 of them to be exact) and that was closer to want I really wanted.
