Didn’t know that this changed in 1991, so basically I probably have seen those old red ones in the old days. No recollection, though.

在1991年以前，台灣的計程車並沒有規定車色，街上可以見到各種顏色的計程車，而紅色代表喜氣，所以紅色的計程車特別多。自1991年1月1日起，監理處才規範計程車在登記時，須將車色變更為18號純黃色，但在這之前已經登記為其他顏色的計程車，一樣可以保留原色合法上路，不需改變車色。
至於為什麼要選擇黃色呢？事實上，黃色可是業者和民眾共同選出來的喔！1990年6月6日，經由台北市計程車商業同業公會執行業者問卷調查與民眾票選，選擇黃色為計程車統一顏色；然後在1991年1月1日起便規定車身都必須為18號黃色。
目前選定黃色為計程車統一顏色的國家，除了台灣以外，還有美國紐約、土耳其、希臘雅典等。另外還有車身上下顏色不一但其中有黃色的，例如泰國曼谷便有上黃下綠色。
I remember how taxis looked before 1991. With Uber basically required to be taxis now, they can again be any color they want.

Any idea where exactly the first picture is of? I don’t seem to be able to recognise anything or spot any place names. The hills in the background should be the giveaway but I can’t seem to place them either.

I believe that’s the old bus station just to the west/left of Taipei main station.

The old main station, yes. If you ever get to the train museum (in old train station at top center of photo) they have a cool diorama of whole area at this time.

Basically, many European cities mandating tour buses to park farther away from city foot zones, forcing tourists to drag any roller suitcases they are using over cobblestone streets to their hotels. Basically told audience to bring backpacks (if physically able to) on trips to cities there.
Easy to solve. Suitcases should have rubber tyres.
Sitting at an outside cafe in Amsterdam, Aachen, Paris etc. and getting the Chinese group tours passing by dragging their wheeled suitcases over the cobblestones can give anybody PMS
And no, I don’t want a tour bus stopping just outside the cafe either

So ironic that “Chinese” is so front and center, when the original Hawaiians are Austronesians and could trace their language all the way back to Taiwan.
2 minutes into the video, there is a section featuring pòo-tē-hì (the puppet show), but the video didn’t bother showing some of the spoken lines or audio from the show. Is it because the show would have been in Taigi, which the KMT authoritarian regime at the time wished not to promote?
