There are no gangsters in Taiwan. Just street thugs, wide boys, criminals and white collar fraudsters. Why call them gangsters?
Because small businesses here still get shaken down for protection money. I don’t know if it is more or less prevalent than up north. Loan sharking is still common, and Taichung seems to have more houses of ill repute than Taipei. Or maybe they just hide them better in Taipei.
