As someone intending to move to Taiwan, should I buy a one-way ticket and then ‘depart’ via Hong Kong? Would that look too suspicious to the immigration agent at the airport if I were arriving on a 30 day visa? Or should I expect to eat the loss of my return ticket (when I don’t plan to return)?
You just need to show an ongoing ticket out of Taiwan to immigration (actually I had to show it before boarding at home, but I don’t remember being asked to show it here). So you could buy a one way to Taiwan, then a separate, refundable ticket to say Bangkok.
I havent got one and just walked in.all you need to know is the plane number of a plane leaving Taiwan in a month or few months “cx252” cathay pacific to london.its all ever put down as i never know when im leaving
Especially if it’s a US airline. The rule is that if you are not a resident/citizen of the country you are traveling to, you need a ticket to leave, and US airlines follow the rules pretty closely. Taiwan immigration probably won’t ask, but US airlines are generally unwilling to risk the huge fines in case immigration asks and you don’t have it.
