‘Online’ Bank’s xenophobic reasoning for denying "foreigners" the ability to open an account online

(Continuing here because the long post was getting annoying to write)

So it looks like that’s that, then. I don’t think there’s anywhere further to go with this particular complaint now. All that’s left is for the FSC to reject my appeal to them, which I think is a certainty.

A couple of thoughts/subsequent steps:

  • I don’t particularly like the response above, but at least they responded to what I wrote and somebody read my complaints about online banks, ARC numbers, the lack of a verification system for foreigners, and so on.
  • I’ve already mentioned these issues to the Better Living committee of the European Chamber of Commerce, because after the meeting last week they forwarded me some questions from the NDC about banking issues, which I gave my opinions on.
  • I keep meaning to finally finish my own e-mail to the NDC complaining about this stuff. Will do that soon.
  • Based on what the MOI has written here about Richart etc. providing a partial service to foreigners so it doesn’t count as discrimination and we should be grateful for that, I’m intending to submit another MOI complaint regarding all the online banks that don’t provide any service at all. Maybe an FSC complaint too.
  • Of course, all I expect from that is more excuses, but I’d like them in writing. Once I’ve got that, I think I’ll attempt to share the problem and government responses/inaction more widely. I agree with the above that media attention would be useful. It seems to me like these individual complaints aren’t getting us very far, and more are going to be necessary.
  • Just as a side point related to previous discussions, it was interesting to note that according to the cover sheet a copy of this response was apparently sent to the National Immigration Agency, and the letter again arrived in an NIA envelope with an NIA e-mail address. Looks like I’m building up my own folder next to @Niurou and @Mataiou in the “annoying foreigners” drawer of the filing cabinet.
