Online Colleges/Universities

I am interested in doing an online degree but have never tried before.

Any recommendation what’s a good online college/university for me to sign up?
Any advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Any advice appreciated? Good.

You could start by using the “search” function in Forumosa and reading all the other conversations people have had on the subject. Or, broaden your search by looking up “online degree legitimate” on Google and finding results like this:

google.com/search?hl=en&lr=& … tnG=Search

Or, I could forward to you some of the endless spam I receive from the so-called DeVry University and University of Phoenix spam factories, which are nothing but nuisances that should be shut down, although some on forumosa have tried to defend their reputations.

I won’t belabor the point, because it’s already been discussed so many times on forumosa but if you want a real education go to a real school; if you just want to buy a diploma consider doing it online.

I just started studying at Athabasca University in Canada.

Why not start out by finding a quality institution recognized by these certifying authorities:

A good start would be this centre of learning excellence:

And here is their smorgasbord of academic offerings:

Alternatively, I would suggest the “open university” that most countries have. eg. The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, the University of South Africa, or the UK’s Open University. Unfortunately, not all the courses they offer are web-based. You may actually have to do some real work and send in real assignments for their courses (although many of these can be submitted over the internet).

If you’re looking at doing an MA in TESOL by distance, I would suggest a UK university. There are many that offer this: Manchester, Aston, Sheffield, Leicester etc, and they are all in the top 1/3 of UK schools. Again, they are not actually web-based, though. The US is decades behind in this regard.[/list]

For a BA, the University of London’s a good bet. There’s a lot of red tape, though, since you have to take those “O” and “A” level exams first.

I have experience with Unisa which I liked very much, but can’t speak for its present situation. (Black rule has not been kind to the South African educational system.) Open University is probably similar.

How about Regents University in New York?

And then there’s Viagra University of Nigeria, which boasts a well-regarded degree in internet-based direct marketing.

Hey thanks for all your advice and the link. There is simply too much to read so I am hoping to come across someone who has been through the path for some guidance. As for real education, not sure how should I put it. I reckon I have already had my formal(real or not??) education up to a reasonable level. Now I am considering doing something different from what I am familiar with and yet I cannot invest classroom time. So I reckon online courses would be best. Diploma courses seem superficial to me but I suppose as an appetizer to entree, it may be a good idea, who knows I am full after the appetizer!!

But what is really worth noting is which are the colleges/universities that are recognised/endorsed for their online programs? This, I have not quite figured out yet… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Kent, as you progress in your course, would you be able to share more of your experience please? Thanks.

Thanks DSN and SJ, I will research more into your suggestions. Really appreciate your input on this.
