It seems many people like to complain on forums where no changes can be made to happen. If they contact the FSC and the issue is resolved they lose the woe is me foreigner right to continue complaints on social media.
I was told by bank staff no credit cards car loans mortgages on my ARC in the 1990s. Yet I got all those things I was told I could not have. Some people like to get told no then go yeah alright I’m done with applying anymore.
Failure is an option they can accept.
Can you post the complaint and response to the FSC with your details blacked out? And the answer from eSun where they say, they will change their policy?
They actually called me I don’t recall getting an official letter. But I have an email trail of them letting me know the progress of them changing their system. Also the website was updated.
I also didn’t have to take it further than the FSC
I think this still depends on the branch. Besides @afterspivak, who after 20 years in Taiwan and 20 years with the same branch should really pull his finger out and get complaining IMO, a couple of Mexican friends were also told recently that they need a guarantor for a credit card by one branch (the one their salary goes into actually, and they have existing credit cards with other banks). I told them to complain and how, but don’t think they have yet.
I’ve got a Mega Bank credit card and didn’t encounter any issues in either the Guting branch or after applying - nobody in the branch gave me any nonsense for being a foreigner. I applied under the preferential scheme for gold card holders though, so maybe that’s part of the reason.
Again, time to go and make them be nice to you. You can do it! 
I got Mega about 5 years ago but they pulled the whole guarantor term deposit nonsense so I actually attended their office in Taipei. It’s near one of the main Ubus terminals in Sanchong. I went in and spoke to a manager who said they would review it. I got it in the end but with a super low limit.
They have a special arrangement for Gold Card holders.
I will try Mega credit card with a normal APRC through marriage.
I don’t have gold card as I came here before that existed. By now I have APRC and getting gold card I would have to wait another 3 years to get APRC for little benefits.
Yeah, sure. But also nobody in the branch batted an eyelid (although one of them hadn’t seen the forms before and needed me to e-mail them to her).
And Huanan also has a special arrangement for gold card holders, and they were a pain in the arse to deal with.
