Origin of protest headbands?

I am curious about the origin of headbands worn by protesters in Taiwan.

I read about Japanese headbands called ‘hachimaki’ 鉢巻 that are worn to symbolise effort and group allegiance. Are the headbands a Japanese influence?

I think they are also worn in South Korea (possible Japanese influence again)–and in the PRC (?)

Anyone know what they are called in Mandarin? Taiwanese?

Thanks

I’ve got a “boycott Nestle” one someone gave me in the Philippines.

I’m not sure of the origin, but I think it’s very effective:
