Could for example my wife, who actually did vote, send in a copy of her ID saying that in fact she is one of the 3,000,000 that didn’t vote. Then the KMT checks and notices that someone with her ID actually voted. They could then claim her vote invalid? Thus she receives NT$3,200. If a whole family does this they could have a nice little party. Of course this would assume they voted DPP and then those votes would no longer count. Or would even one instance of voting irregularities allow them to rumble in the streets under the charges of the election being unfair?
Likewise, she could collect even more money, NT$20,000 just by lying and saying “yes, I saw something tricky that day”, then her brothers could back her up and likewise all of her uncles and then we could have enough money for a trip abroad.
Is this Pan-Blue stunt going to hold up in court? Isn’t it possible to fabricate these reports as I mention above?
I wondered the same thing when I read that report this morning. I can remember showing my voter I.D. card when I went to the polls at home and someone checking if my name was on the books but can’t remember signing anything to prove it was me.
Does anyone know how it works in Taiwan? For instance, do voters have to bring their chop with them and stamp it to show it was them who voted? Curious.
This is yet another KMT/PFP stunt to try and stir things up again as there are surely going to be people claiming foul.
Just asked my wife and she showed me the back of her ID where they actually stamped the election date into a column that shows whether you voted in the presidential election or not.
I wonder if someone could rub it off and say they didn’t vote when they actually had.
So how could someone vote if they stole or borrowed your ID, don’t they look at the picture, etc?
Odd KMT tactic, given that the girl upstairs told me that her grandmother (and other seniors) were told by pro-blue canvassers that if they gave them their ID cards, the canvassers would vote for them. Is the KMT not aware that their own people were involved in this?
Can granny come forward and say, “I gave my ID card to someone to cast a vote, and he gave me NT$2,000. I was led to believe that he was pan-blue alliance.”?
Ya gotta give the blues an A for creativity. What next? Payouts for people who can vouch that extraterrestrials used mind control to make blue supporters vote green?
Wolf, I got it. The KMT alliance knows that they did a lot of tricky stuff during the election to get votes illegally, so they find proof that some illegal voting took place, but they don’t say if it was the KMT or DPP. They insinuate it was the DPP, but they say it doesn’t matter anyway, that they have proof that 29,000 instances of illegal voting occurred, so this casts doubt on the election being fair and they have to do a recall.
Perhaps this was their backup plan if they lost. Do some illegal vote buying then say if you lose you can use it to call for another election.
If the they try to pull a stunt like that and get away with it, what do you think the reaction of the millions of people who voted for the DPP is going to be?
Rioting in the streets that would make the recent demonstrations look like a kindergarten party?
I would say that would be the minimum reaction. These guys are playing with dynamite.
In the article Hobart mentioned I couldn’t find any word about what camp is supposed to have caused those “voting irregularities”, so it could very well be that Hobart’s theory is correct - do some vote-buying, so they can always say there were such cases - no matter if it all was done by themselves.
I’m not sure if there were riots and big demonstrations if that got through. I would actually welcome demonstrations, because they would show there is at least some sense of democracy in the people’s mind. However, what I really want to see is this comedy’s (Or will it become a tragedy?) end, so people could go on addressing real problems…
