The NYT has a piece today on China’s intensifying charm offensive in Paraguay — Taiwan’s last remaining ally in South America — including all-expenses-paid tours of Chinese cities for opposition lawmakers. President Peña is holding firm, pointing out that every Latin American country that switched from Taiwan to China is now worse off than Paraguay. Worth watching as Peña’s term ends in 2028 and the political succession picture gets murkier.
