Parking rant: ... why do they keep doing it?

I particularly like the asses who park in front of someone’s house without asking, after moving the no-parking signs out of their way and don’t leave a friggin’ phone number…that really pisses me off…especially when it happens at least three times a day in front of my house…

Well it was quite accidentally as I was going to make selfportret of me in the shower … :roflmao: :moon:

No one has the right to place no-parking signs (or anything else for that matter) out in the street except the city or county government. You can paint signs on your garage door all you like but unless there is a line painted outside you have no right to interfere with anyone parking there. If it’s inconvenient that they park in front of an entrance then you need to approach this via the proper channels.

I wonder if the tow truck companies pay spotter fees over here? Strike a deal with a tow company and keep their number handy

@ redwagon

No, I don’t think it’s my personal space, I know full well I don’t own the spot…however, it’s just downright friggin’ rude to block off someone’s door and not leave your phone number. And were the situation reversed, they would likely go apeshit on someone for parking in front of their house.

Well, it is awfully rude to park in front of and block someone’s entry/exit. But, you didn’t state that was the problem, originally.

Ah, yeah, that’s true, I didn’t say that…my bad…

Leaving a cell number is smart. Your car is just less likely to get keyed etc.

But if you leave a phone number you increase your chances of falling victim to the old car theft scam. For those of you who dont know, it works like this;
-Thief steals your car which has your cell number that you conveniently left displayed
-You get a call saying that they have your car and it will cost $50,000NT to get it back, or pay
$70,000 for the insurance if you don’t.
-You agree to pay the $50K, cos its better than filing an insurance claim for $70K
-You get a post office account to deposit into and off you go to pay it
-Scumbag thief is laughing all the way to the post office
-Once the funds are cleared you get a call telling you where the car is.
-The car is where they told you, cos they are honest crooks!

Dont leave a phone number with the car folks!

Here’s just a small sample of the mass muppetry that goes on in Kaohsiung every day.
This is a scooter box in SiaoGang: the box is to the right of the Benz.

A minute later, the ever-popular redlight u-turn.

Sidewalk parking in Zuoying, Kaohsiung

Bus, green truck, and gold car are all parked with flashers on. The gold car gets extra points for blocking the crosswalk. I could have done better with this shot, because the taxi that was parked next to the gold car had just left!

Here in Kaohsiung I often see people painting the white lines in front of their house red, or the red lines white, depending on what is more convenient for their selfish needs.

@ Specialist: I’m aware of that scam. My first strategy is not to park anywhere dodgy that I need to leave a number. Strategy #2 is to not leave the car in a dodgy place for too long.

@ Armani: Can’t see the pix. Please fix. I have zero patience with these cheeky bastards and their selfish desires. I used to have neighbours with the habit of putting out steel no-parking signs but I kept stealing them until they gave up. Then, on the odd occasion when I had no choice but to park in front of their house they would complain about my car being there. So, I’d park it there even when the street was empty. (Back in those days you wouldn’t have noticed if my car was keyed. I wouldn’t be so brave now). When they complained about the car being “in their space” I borrowed a 5 ton truck and left it there for a week. If they want their own personal parking space they can damn well pay for it like everyone else. :fume:

I’ve heard of the line painting trick but haven’t seen it first hand. My experience is that people who do this sort of thing are more dangerous than the cops or the tow trucks. If they are crazy enough to do shit like that they are more than willing to damage your car as ‘punishment’ for parking on their fake line.

My booty for today:

Creative parking

No parking?

Creative way of using public space, vendor, and wrong parking

Block them darn scooters

Wrong parked … cars in the scooter spots, scooters on the sidewalk

A little complicated parking

Blocking crossings

and finally, there is a public parking that costs 20 NT$/hour and in a circle of 150m I could make a fortune in fines if I were a (good) cop, with Taiwan’s finest

nice finds, belgian

what makes me mad at times, is the taxi drivers stopping in the middle of the street to allow passengers getting on or off, when they could stop a few meters further close to the side walk without any problems.

I think it’s a kind of concept thing. consideration for strangers is probably a sign of weakness, or has never been heard of in the first place…

More of creative parking

How hard headed can one be and still try to find holes in the parking arrangements?

They just rearranged the concrete blocks to prevent cars being wild parked
