Part time teaching job, where to look/qualifications?

So I can’t make enough money to make ends meet fixing guitars, not when I get work once in a blue moon (sometimes not even that), possibly due to COVID or something.

So I want to find a part time teaching gig because this has got to be better than working retail.

I never taught before and I get skittish since I’m not high energy/outgoing and while I can pretend to be that way I couldn’t keep it up forever. Also as for materials to use and how to teach, I’m not all that sure.

Is race really a big factor? As in I’m as much as a native speaker as any white guy but they don’t have to get me an ARC so it’s much easier for them, so I would think this should/would result in an easier decision to hire… but I don’t know.

Where do you usually look for teaching gigs, and how would I make a resume about this?

Career wise you need to work around your Asperger’s. Where does that add value? I don’t think teaching is the best avenue. Training as an accountant feels better to me.

You can’t easily make a teaching resume because you have zero experience. I am being really direct here because I think it is the best way to get you to understand. You cannot teach well.

Become an accountant.

Well it’s not like I can be a part time accountant. Also wouldn’t there be licensing requirements to be one? How would I become licensed to be an accountant in Taiwan?

Jesus, mate. I’m not experienced to deal with people in your situation.

I have no idea about accountancy in Taiwan. Why would you think I did?

You’re my favorite bisexual aspy on the site, but I can’t help you.

OP’s questions are simple. I don’t know those things, but there may be many posters who could answer them.

I also don’t know how is the buxiban market now, though Taiwan’s border is open for buxiban teachers now, so schools are not so desperate as expected before? Again, I don’t have much ideas.

Well, if you really want to help me, perhaps you can pay me to make something? like guitar picks, parts, etc…

My big problem is not knowing enough about Taiwanese government regulations to be able to be an effective accountant and even a middle schooler could out class me simply because they have a much better grasp of written Chinese than I am.

I’d wager there’s a lot of teachers with Aspergers. Especially western EFL teachers in Asia. We have a reputation as not being the most socially skilled, to put it gently.

I think he could probably get a part-time gig at a lower tier buxiban. Why not? Their standards aren’t exactly high. Whether he’d enjoy it or not is a different matter.

How about I make guitar picks and you do my teaching job?

To get a teaching job you need to walk into cram schools. Your CV should be short, around one page. Highlight any experience related to teaching you have. I would guess training people how to machine tools or something similar.

You could get a buxiban job really easily. They will try to low ball you because you aren’t white. Something like $500/hr would seem fare considering you don’t have any experience. About experience, don’t worry too much because the English teaching game is set up to have 1st year teachers. No experience is the norm. Get ready for some criticism though.

I heard from one former buxiban school principal/owner a few years ago that there are Facebook contacts so go check them out for vacancies.
