Password Madness

I picked up a PC from a company that was upgrading to newer models.

It runs ‘Red Hat Linux’ and I can’t get past the login stage as I don’t know the password. I tried asking the company where I got it from, but they can’t remember the password either.

Out of frustation, I tried uninstalling Linux and replacing it with Windows - but Linux wasn’t having any of it.

I have tried playing with various BIOS settings and whatever else I can tamper with, but I’m not getting anywhere. My computer knowledge isn’t great, so any advice would be welcomed.

This is driving me crazy…

:fume:

Hope this helps.

They sold you a PC without erasing the hard disk? :astonished:

Anyway, there’s no need to “uninstall” Linux: Simply make sure the system is set to boot from CD first (BIOS -> boot sequence), put in the Windows CD (or the operating system of you choice), then follow the instructions to format the hard disk and install the OS.

funkymonkey’s advice is good. Follow it.

Thanks funkymonkey, hypermegaglobal & irishstu.

I will give it a go. I appreciate your help.
