Before I had injured my hand, I played on local servers. However, those servers were plagued with hackers and idiotic mods for flashy game play. You can tweak your rig to play these games with minimal lag and get your best fps (frames per second). I miss nights back in Toronto playin lan games or touranments via the net while in a [Clan]. Made for a good game with teamates that actually knew the tactics. Not to mention that 2-4 in the fridge.
Well HL2 has very few mods…and no cheats or hacks. Other than people hopping like bunnies to lessen the chance of being hit.
Just takes practice Sideway…and a 3,000nt mouse couldn’t hurt either: logitech.com/index.cfm/produ … NTID=10716
The market in question is the Guanghua IT park. It is a 2 story free for all under the freeway. Between Zongxiao E rd. Sec 2., Bade Rd. Sec. 1 and Jinshan N Rd.(the freeway). Yes its between 3 roads. There is one street with lots of good computer shops, starts with a big yelow 3C, but the main market is under the freeway overpass. Closest MRT is Zongxiao Xinsheng Station.
That’s not a freeway, just a now-useless overpass that used to go over the train tracks.
3000NT is a bit steep. But I might get a better mouse though. Using a <400NT one that moves the pointer around by itself sometimes.
Can anyone recommend a good Sim game? I have played the The Sims, but I am more interested in one of the “tycoon” games. Does anyone have zoo tycoon, rollercoaster tycoon, corporate tycoon, etc. that they can recommend?
Roller coaster tycoon is the only one out of the ones you mentioned that that I know gets a high rating in the mags…I’d trust them.
Out of the ones you mentioned Rollercoaster Tycoon is probably the best game like Mordeth has mentioned.
Other “Tycoon” classics are Transport Tycoon and Railroad Tycoon. They released a newer version of Transport Tycoon named Locomotion but I’d recommend just downloading the 1996 deluxe version since it’s pretty much exactly the same. Railroad Tycoon 3 and Railroad Pioneer are both pretty good games which were released last year.
Alright, this isn’t a SIM game, but I just discovered it after playing with my cousins. It’s an addictive boardgame that’s also available online.
Settlers of Catan, different but fun.
Oh, and if you like online games…there is an Asian themed one that is 100% free…no strings attached…I played it for almost a year… www.conqueronline.com . I play(ed) on the Katlin server. This game is still growing fast…since it’s completely free.
Also, I’m really curious about this game (it’s a tycoon game of sorts): themoviesgame.com/
This new game sounds interesting. You can also buy it through steam with a credit card for only 18 bucks american.
The world of Darwinia is a virtual themepark, running inside a computer network built by a computer genius named Dr Sepulveda. Darwinia is populated by a sentient evolving life form called the Darwinians. They are the product of a decades worth of research into genetic algorithms.
Unfortunately, the systems of Darwinia have been overrun by an evil red Viral Infection. This Virus has multiplied out of control and must be stopped. Your task is to destroy the Viral Infection and save the Darwinians from extinction.
Every review I’ve read about this game raves about it. I’ve already pre-ordered it. And I’m still not sure what it’s about.

EDIT: and here is another game that you can download straight to your comp through Steam: sinepisodes.com/index.php?overview
look at this quote:
[b]Episodic Delivery
Buy as little or as much of the game as you want, with each installment offering 3
Have you tried Evil Genius? I think it is one of the best barons out there now. Under $500nt at the Yellow 3C and in English! Very fun but wont suck up your whole life like Sim2.
Evil Genius is great fun. Mine got glitchy after awhile though. Actually…I’ve upgraded my ram since then…maybe I should give it another go.
Also now is a great time to start playing that FREE MMORPG conquer online:

And the best and easiest way to get high quality games in Taiwan is… steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow
Steam is great. I’m addicted to DoD: Source now. Tried the Darwina demo yesterday, now I’m tempted to buy it even though my girlfriend has been telling me that I play too much video games. :loco:
im playing battfield 2 and the special forces expansion pack, its multilanguge CD/DVD, great fun w/ ranking system, just hope that sum privates wont try to get into helicopters, then crash seconds after take off…
Alright, I’m going to make the trip down to Taipei today and try and find this. I’ll let you know which English games I’m able to find. Wish me luck. Hopefully I’ll get some good ones to entertain myself with the upcoming Chinese New Year vacation.
Alright, just go back. I picked up Civ 4, F.E.A.R. , Call of Duty 2, and Stonghold 2 (I played the first one to the end). I then went to 101 and picked up some books that you can only buy at the 101 Page One book store.
So I am now broke…and my plans for getting a new motorbike for the summer are looking grim.
The directions above are pretty good. I got confused and was looking for the shop under the Jinshan rd…which it isn’t.
I’d say follow the directions above and go to the Guanghua IT park…then just look for a green bridge/raised road and there will be a 2 story building jammed under it…with the roof touching it.
The building has a name as well…the Rainbow… something. And the dealer inside who sells English games is at booth #20.
She told me that she would be moving soon and opening a new bigger store. So you might want to call first before making a long journey like I did today. Her number is 02-2321-8275.
P.S. Thanks for the P.M. Chicken.
Congratulations on your purchases. Sounds like you got some great games and will definitely be busy during CNY!
I am currently playing Call of Duty 2. The AI on that game is phenomenal. I have Civ IV but I haven’t played it yet. It was awarded Game of the Year by numerous game sites. I am afraid I will get too addicted to that game (which is easy to do from what I hear from a lot of people).
I saw Stronghold 2 at that same store but I did not purchase it. It looks pretty similar to Knights of Honor which I picked up at FNAC (English version).
Please let me know how F.E.A.R. is. That game is supposed to be an indication as to where the future of FPS games are headed. I don’t think my system would allow me to run that game as it was meant to be played.
Did you see a copy of The Movies at that store? I have been debating whether I want to get involved in another sim game (I am also playing Rollercoaster Tycoon 3). I have seen the movies on their website that other players have made using that game and they are pretty well made.
Have fun playing your games. I am trying to fight my way through Call of Duty 2 and build up my character in Guild Wars. And during my free time I am trying to conquer the New World in Age of Empires III.

F.E.A.R. is great. The muliplayer is fast and beautiful. It’s scary as heck. I’m not getting into it too much…I want to beat Far Cry first.
Here is a game for those of you that like turn based strategy: lasersquadnemesis.com/
So it is confirmed that Civilization IV is already out in Taiwan?
I am in Thailand right now, so far there’s pirate copies, but I still have no idea how to crack into the game… :s
