This is true, I tried to hand out free clothing to homeless with a group once around main station. Only half of them took clothes the other half were ashamed to accept any kind of charity as it would dishonor them though it was obvious they wanted the clothes…they really struggled to accept any help…I had to talk a few into it by saying it would help us if they took the clothes so we didn’t have to carry so much or throw it out, bad for environment etc

This is a real problem. I abandoned our charity years ago due to related face issues. Focused more on educating children and environmental/animal cruelty issues instead. some people are deserving, but so egocentric they cannot dig thenelves out. I have more hope in fuure generations.

Then make them earn it.

Have them do work for you. Doesn’t have to be work that actually produces anything, but make them feel like they earned it. Then they can accept help without loss of face.

That is exactly how i used to think. I still do. however, i have had a rude awakening to the reality of current human entitlement.
