Permanent ARC

at a party recently a friend ( who’s been here longer than me )
said that he heard that you could apply for a three year ARC
after you had been here for three years ( ie. had three ARCs ).
had the boss call the local FAP ( feng yuan ) and they said -
five ARCs and apply for a permanent ARC.
any comments?

I have a 3 year ARC that I got after I’d previously had 2 1-year ARCs. (ie, I’d been here 2 years) All it takes is a contract you can show the FAP that says your employer wants to hire you for a 3 year period.

I base this on the fact that my workmate and I both applied for multi-year work permits, and I got mine but he only got a one-year one. I’d had three one year work permits before that, but he’d only had one.

any comments?[/quote]Do a search, or browse through forumosa.com/taiwan/viewforum.php?f=67 for “APRC”. You’ll find lots of useful information. Basically, if you’re not married to a local it’s seven consecutive years legal residency (on a regular working ARC, not a student one), and if you are married to a local then it’s five years. I think the letter of the law is that it’s at least 183 days legal residency for each of the relevant years. However, some FAP offices have said that it should be continuous residency without any breaks. This may be a misinterpretation of the law and it could be worth appealing.

But do check out the other threads on this. There’s lots of information written by people far more knowledgeable on this than me.

thanks joesax;
i have to admit i didn’t even know there was a Visa & Residency Issues
sub-section to the forum!
this is as far as i go below MOTORCYCLES.
now have some reading to do -
just thankfull i’ve never needed the Legal section before.

I got a three-year ARC after being here for only one year and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t required for me to have been in Taiwan any length of time.
