Is there any kind of extra insurance one can take out in case you have to stay out of work? A co-worker lost two weeks because of an accident. If you get paid by the hour (many teaching jobs work like that, don’t know about others) that can add up to a lot of hours. What if you had to take a month? You might even lose your job.
Any kind of insurance that will pay out in a case like that?

I have a ton of personal insurance from an agent that covers me for any time missed from work, in addition to travel insurance and upgrades on NHC benefits.
But it ain’t exactly cheap.
We’ve only needed to collect once, when my daughter got sick on a trip back home and we had to pay cash for a doctor visit, we had no trouble getting reimbursed.
Our agent also does my taxes every year.
And sends my daughter birthday cards.
A friend of mine who sells insurance informed me of a kind of life insurance where you pay 20k for 3 years…at which point the money is returned to you. That insurance covered lost work, and pretty much everything else.
Can you give some specifics of who you use? I’ve been searching like a madman for two months to find some reasonable home contents insurance.
(PS: I think this thread has gone OT, maybe move the general insurance stuff?)
