Speaking of crap on the news vs. smackdowns: the verb to slam! 
Whenever they say A slammed B today! I hear it as A said something critical of B that will make absolutely no difference to the outcome of whatever the 
is going on!
But yeah, a smackdown with an actual slamming would be nice, for a change.
