available anywhere else?
Because its a supermarket.. not a traditional market.
What psychopath is going to traditional markets expecting to use a bank card??
Its 2026 and the standard I expect from a supermarket and well known brands is international payments and phone payments, not restricted to local banks and the pxmarts own bloody app because they can get kick backs. There is no good reason for this in 2026. pxmart can do one!
Costco too with their equally lame restrictions. My card just expired. I won’t be renewing it. If I need anything from costco I’ll go with others.
Well you seem to have some unspoken expectations about credit card acceptance at a supermarket. Let go of those expectations . . . and drift into a calm place . . . you will have food, there is enough for everyone, things will be fine.

Not even from those tiny Carrefours. ![]()
Well, I saw that Italian brand of real parmesean cheese back on the shelves… hope it will remain, it’s a decent value at 200 grams. I paid the same price for 150 grams at Mia C’bon…
What are you blithering on about man?
I have some standards for supermarkets and pxmart fails to meet them. Its as simple as that.
Carrefour going to be phased out in Italy too, sold to a revived brand (which Carrefour bought to expand in Italy) called GS.
My fave are: Esselunga (by far), Coop (even if they are commies, but good stuff), Conad (especially their top line branded stuff sapori e dintorni).
Lidl decent for bread when they have their own bakery in store

Don’t worry @Mataiou I also belong to a “commie” co-op here in Taiwan, as they too sell good stuff, including top shelf pesticide free fruits!

fior fiore coop is one of the best supermarket branded stuff around, I have to give them that. They cost more than the competition (with the exclusion of some stuff from Esselunga, which is the CAPITALIST brand of northern Italy), but it’s good.
Esselunga TOP products, try them next time. limited production
I will try ! Conad has some very nice shops (Perugia one had fresh truffles) and seems kind of co op ?
not a coop Conad. But good stuff
Hey no more posting of food porn here, ok.
Honestly Taiwan’s supermarkets for westerners are a bit of a food desert, especially for Europeans , but we just gotta figure things out ourselves. Mostly I got around this by giving up and eating local food.
coop and Esselunga have the best gastronomies, Conad close second. Some carrefours have very decent rotisserie chicken. Bennet also, but very local (northern Italy only basically).
Despar in the regions bordering Austria is lovely since can find many Austrian and Swiss stuffs. Coop there uses a different brand, since it’s the local co-ops operating, the strudel you find there are quite amazing for a store bought one.
Truffles in Taiwan? Some people would just get confused. ![]()
Man, am I slow. The little grocery-only Carrefour in my neighborhood has been out of bags for the past few weeks. After the first time sans bag I now remember to bring my own. Today I finally saw the sign below which explains the missing bags. I thought they just forgot to order them or something. Durrr
“We’re out of bags because of rebranding” sounds so much better than “We’re out of bags because we didn’t want to pay the higher prices our supplier is charging us” ![]()
