Photography advice

Greetings. I would like to take a photo of a small animal living on a rock, some distance from the shore. The creature is about 4 cm long, and the nearest I can get to it is probably 15-30 meters, Would a telescope with a 400 mm aperture and a telephone extensions be able to capture such an image? would anyone be able to lend me or hire suitablbe lense for taking such a photo ? I do not have a massive budget but can pay for the gig, Taitung county, I am trying to take a photo to identify the exact specie

Can’t help with that, but would definitely go to the shore if l were in Taitung. Can you show a photo of the rock?

I do have a 400mm equivalent lens and I doubt you could get a good image of anything 4cm from that distance even with a tripod and no wind, which is a major issue on the coast. How about getting a surfboard to get close?

How about renting or borrowing a Drone Camera?

The critter is 4cm long. How will he get close enough with a drone?

Very carefully? What would you suggest instead – Google Maps?

If you can get in touch with one of the bird photographers they’d probably be able to help.

Yup just get that little critter to take flight right up to your drone. Hope the noise of the motors hasn’t scared it away.

this may help

Thank you for the replies, yup a drone cam with a zoom would do, suggestions on where to rent one in Taitung? I tried to do the calculation but would not work out the variables , I am terrible at maths and do not understand all the values, if someone can figure out how to calc would be great, thanks

Isn’t a tripod and a remote shutter cheaper, easier and quieter than a drone? Most modern cameras can shoot via smartphone, so only a tripod is required.

You need a license to fly a drone in Taiwan I believe.

Why not hire a professional photographer?

When I participate in running events, I often see photographers with high-end cameras. You could consider reaching out to some of them for a quote.

Here are a few examples:

Please note, these photographers are Taiwanese, so you may need a local friend or someone to assist with communication.
