Physical Difference between Caucasians and Han Chinese
Are those different to normal eyes then?

I have to admit, I’m the least observant person EVER.
They’re completely different to my blue marbles, that’s for sure. Look at that shape, it’s textbook. Absolute artistry. Phoenix eyes are prominent among the Mongols. That there’s a gorgeous little niece of a friend of mine; they’re all Mongolians.

You know how the average Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Taiwanese person does not like the typical shape of their eyes. Well, do they typically find these ‘phoenix eyes’ to be attractive? I think they look good, but then I’m a foreigner.

An entire race engaged in self-loathing. How bizarre. I remember last year some idiot was posting about his beautiful, newborn baby girl. She didn’t have the “double eyelid” that his wife had been expecting, so the moron said something to the effect of, “Well, surgery is certainly an option on the table!” And of course Asian parents really will have surgery done on their babies to make their eyes look more Caucasian or their tongues “shaped” to speak English. Sheer, utter insanity.

Gao, you’re kidding, surely…?

It IS bizarre that, with as proud of their culture as they are, members of the East Asian races (CJK) simply HATE their looks.

Nope, not kidding. I find it sad that anyone, foreigner or local, would look at their healthy, beautiful baby and contemplate having surgery done on her eyes so she’ll look “more white”. Or that Korean parents would mutilate their child’s tongue on the mistaken belief it will help them speak English better. But it happens.

cosmetic surgery on babies? That’s terrible :frowning:

Are “phoenix eyes” just double-lidded eyes? I saw on Discovery channel (I think?) that 50% of Asians have double lids and 50% don’t, but the double lids are “prettier” because it makes your eyes look bigger :astonished: <<like that guy ;D

No, it’s a particular shape like the ones in the photos of the Mongolian girl I just showed. The eyes take the shape of the Chinese phoenix as it is traditionally depicted. Here is another example. You also see them exaggerated (or painted on), in Chinese opera characters.

Ooooh OK I can tell now! The original posted pic was too big to see properly on my screen (I am on a mini notebook) so all I noticed was the fold :stuck_out_tongue: I think her eyes are pretty

She’s a little honey. Not conventionally pretty, but a very sweet kid and I think she’s adorable. Lovely eyes, natural skin without a shred of makeup, slight overbite and a little double chin. We managed to communicate reasonably well despite the fact that she knew virtually no English and I knew absolutely no Mongolian.

Really lovely eyes. This girl has beautiful eyes, also.

Thanks for posting that link.

Wow, that girl has an amazing face. Really striking.
If you ever want to change your avatar again you should put this on. (I have to say I’m relieved you took the last one off, which was disturbing and yet compelling at the same time.)

Which one was that? I forget…

Yeah…Asians just aren’t really into the broadfaced, squinty eyed look. Prefer the chiseled jawline in men, mostly. But if that’s your thing, then more power to ya. She looks remarkably similar to the man directly behind her, cept for the size differences in their noses and mouths. Looks like they’re from Shanghai or thereabouts.

Anyhow, come on, all these posts glorifying the “phoenix eye” are no better than that post where that dude’s wife had an obsession with “double eyelids”. Both (and more!) exist in the general Asian population. If someone prefers one type of eye shape over another, that’s their freakin business. Like how I wouldn’t stop you if you wanted to replicate Michael Jackson’s nosejob. World’s overpopulated anyway.

With regards to the squatting, I think Asians in general tend to be more flexible. I’ve always been kind of amazed by how stiff some white males tend to be (can’t touch the toes or extend shoulders above a certain angle).

Other differences…both Caucasian men and women tend to have broader shoulders. Caucasian women tend to have more muscle mass and fat in their legs/buttocks region than Chinese women. Chinese women tend to have flatter buttocks. They also tend to have smaller breasts. Even amongst the fat Chinese women, there aren’t as many 56Ks. It can be easier for Asians to achieve that calf muscle definition and mass that some Caucasians can gain through the use of calf implants. Many Caucasians have skin that will freckle and burn instead of tan. Caucasians more susceptible to skin cancer due to UV exposure. Asians tend to have less body hair, and some CJK men are unable to grow actual beards (maybe only a goatee, but nothing where the “mutton chops” would be)

Caucasians tend to have a orthognathous jaw, while Asians and Africans have a more prognathous jaw (producing a more “ape-like” (protruding) mouth shape in a profile view). The wide front tooth gap seems to occur more rarely in Asians, and more often in Caucasians and Africans. Asians naturally tend to have very poor tooth alignment (lots of overcrowding, teeth growing in funny) while Caucasians seem to have a higher likelihood of good tooth alignment. The Japanese and Chinese will sometimes have “tiger teeth”: canines that protrude or grow in front of other teeth. These are considered cute by some.

The rate of myopia is something like 80% in Taiwan, while only sometime like 10% of the Caucasian population is nearsighted.

Africans have the densest bones, then Asians, then Caucasians. Sickle cell anemia is much, much more prominent in the African population, as it yields survival benefits when malaria is involved in the equation. Cystic fibrosis is more common in Caucasians.

And probably a bazillion other differences - in stature, genetic disorders, reactions to drugs, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. There’s probably a whole lot more that’s different between a Chinese dude and a dude from Finland than the difference between a Chihuahua and a Great Dane.

What I think is strange is the obsession over ‘double eyelids’ in East Asia, and the belief that the ‘double eyelid’ is what makes someone’s eyes look Caucasian. Clearly they don’t - this girl has ‘double eyelids’, and yet I can’t even imagine a more exotic, less Caucasian-looking eye shape.

I’ve wondered if that’s actually due to the fact that in many Western countries kids have dental braces slapped on them at 12 years old.

Ah that’s what they’re called. A girl I know has these, and while I wouldn’t consider them cute as such, they don’t detract an iota from her charms as far as I’m concerned. If she was in Australia however, her dentist would scream and knock them out with a brick. I think in the West we’re far more obsessed with artificially forcing our bodies to conform to a preconceived ideal of beauty than we like to admit.

Yeah, I just don’t get it. :eh:

I’m not sure if this is a general difference or just one between my wife and I, but her earwax and mine are completely different (disgusting topic, sorry). Hers is drier and she needs to clean them out every so often - her great-grandmother used to do this for her when she was a kid and she loved it. I have the “normal” wax in mine which grosses her out. She used to religiously clean my ears saying that if she did it often enough, they would get sorted out… gave up eventually.

My wife sticks a little piece of tape one the top of each eyelid when doing her makeup every day to achieve this effect! :unamused:

He was joking about having surgery. I think he put a lol smilie at the end of the sentence. Bad taste, perhaps, but he wasn’t serious.

This isn’t a racial difference, although the percentage of each type in each group might be. Ear wax is dry or wet, and the type you have is determined genetically. Same with being able to roll your tongue - some can, some can’t, and it is something encoded in our genes.

I had that, and it was corrected with braces. We don’t think it’s cute, just that you have skew teeth. My mates called me Vampire for a while there.

There, fixed that for ya.
