PIC QUIZ ROUND 13 (Where is this /or What happened there?)

Looks like you got it. :+1:

Thanks!

What subset are you referring to?

I think a couple of introductory statements on my part are in order:

First off, let me say that Iā€™m not complainingā€“this is not a complaint.

Secondā€“and I mean no offense by saying thisā€“I canā€™t help but express surprise that you donā€™t know what subset Iā€™m referring to.

Now, to your question, and I want to re-emphasize that Iā€™m not complaining and I mean no offense:

A lot of these more recent pic quizzes seem to meā€“at least initiallyā€“to be virtually insoluble, and that includes this most recent one. In the old days, I used to get some help from Google Image Search, or Bingā€™s or Yandexā€™s image search devices.

But the more recent onesā€“which I meant when I used the word ā€œsubsetā€ā€“donā€™t seem to be susceptible to that kind of solutionā€“at least not for me. Again, Iā€™m not complaining, because I can understand how someone might think that the kind of puzzle that could be solved using one of these image search functions would not be very challenging.

At any rate, I donā€™t think I could have solved these things unless someoneā€“say, @Dr_Milker or some other exceptionally perspicacious playerā€“hadnā€™t already answered one or two of the questions. In fact, Iā€™m pretty sure that Iā€™ve even taken advantage of the role of ā€œTail-End-Charlieā€ on a good proportion of these games. That is, some of my answers were provided after someone else had gone most of the way toward solving the puzzle.

I hope I have explained things adequately.

Hey, this happens to me sometimes too.

Well, still, Iā€™m glad youā€™re around for these things. I think that left to my own devices, Iā€™d be virtually clueless on about half of themā€“maybe on most of them.

Edited to add: Your participation also encourages me to try to improve my thinking skills about the game. It makes me try harder. What I sometimes wind up doing is abandoning the thing, and then, later on, compulsively coming back to it.

I have barely time to do this game to begin with, so I donā€™t really think much of what or what not might be a good image. I just randomly pick a location, then look for an interesting scene in that location, and then ask a bunch of questions. The first to give me the chance to get a lucky point. The rest a mix of ā€œknowledge about the worldā€ questions, and a few anyone can try to guess with a bit of luck. Like, how many types of restaurants of restaurants are there really? I am always there to give hints anyway, so as long as people are playing, these games are all easy to figure out. The main problem has always been that not enough people are interested in playing. So for me itā€™s just a fun way to virtually get to places around the world without thinking too much.

I like your work on this game. It makes me think harder. And then, if I figure it out, itā€™s rewarding. Itā€™s even helpful if I donā€™t figure it out. Then I can learn by observing those who did figure it out.

Ditto here. Iā€™m glad our dear leader can still find the time to put up a quiz every once in a while. And I appreciate the level of difficulty. With the pics being less susceptible to the various image finders, I have to use more deductive reasoning and make educated guesses, which makes the whole experience more enjoyable. Keep up the good work!

Agreed!

I wonder when somebody is gonna drop by and pick up that free pointā€¦

I know the answer, or I think I do. In fact, it seemed so obvious that I wondered whether it was a trick question.

Iā€™m so old that I think we may have learned about that in school while it was happening. Elementary? Junior high school? High school?ā€“I donā€™t remember which. Maybe all three, because to borrow from William Blake, ā€œEternity is in love with the productions of time.ā€

I think it involved a certain amount of controversy, too (thanks to Wikipedia for reminding me). And there was some valuable stuff that needed to be moved (although I donā€™t remember whether all of it could be moved).

Iā€™m not as old as you, but I do remember learning about it in grade school geography class.

If the point is still up for grabs: the only thing that I ever learned in school about Aswan is the Aswan Dam.

So with that in mind is there a point for the Aswan Dam?

Thatā€™s the one.

They would stand no chance against our own Milky Man.

I actually tried that one out. It starts really easy but gets hard at the higher levels. The time element makes it challenging. Your quizzes are still better though. :slightly_smiling_face:

By the way, I had no idea that apps like this exist/existed when I started the Pic Quiz here.

The interactions between us here, I found that kind of cool. Need to bring it back some day. Too busy with stuff.
