Hundred?

Correct!

Sure, just gimme a minute. Uh, oh, @Dr_Milker got the answer.

Gravier

Correct!

St. George:

I was going around that block, but I couldn’t find the statue, ha.

Just now I had trouble re-finding it. I wasn’t even sure it was St. George till I read up on it.

This is from the sculptor’s CV:

I stumbled upon that statue while looking for nineteenth-century stuff that’s long gone from that street. In fact, for what I was looking for, I’m not even sure the relevant part of the street is there anymore.

It’s weird looking at really old newspapers, and then Googling the address in the paper (whether an ad or an article). Sometimes the address may still be there (e. g., in the French Quarter), but other times, I’m like, holy smokes, things sure have changed!

Anyway:

Batyr
Caliph
Khan
Sultan
Tsar

Who the statue depicts?

?

no.

At Victory Square in Bishkek

“a statue of a woman, waiting for her husband to return home from WWII. The depicted women is standing under a tynduk in the form of a funeral wreath held by three ribs of red granite representing a yurt”

BP went to the bovine pretending a :bird:.

All the mothers and wives that had to wait for their sons and husbands to return home.

Another point must be a give-away

It was almost as if “Well, everyone in Kyrgyzstan knows what this statue is and what it represents, so there’s no point in talking about it.” :frowning: I found all kinds of images of that statue, and even one that was labeled Bishkek, which I found out was the capital city. I figured I was getting very warm because of the stan angle.
