When on scooter (Pillion) as a passenger do you hold the driver? I had a passenger “hug” me , say I getting fat so made me think what other do when you ride. I do not like to hold others (other than GF) but others may think its ok.
As scooter or motorcycle passenger, I hold on to the back of the seat, with hand on driver to let them consciously and subconsciously know I’m ready to grab them if needed.
If I’m driving, I suggest females to lock arms around my waist, and tell guys to grab me only in emergency and don’t be shy if urgent.
I get this suggestions from Females sometimes, but if I do know them well (or a co worker) a bit hesitant hold them around the waist.

I think the majority of drivers don’t care, they want the passenger to feel safe. At least that’s what I’m thinking when I have a passenger.
When I take the motorcycle taxis in Vietnam I lightly hold on to the sides of the driver’s waist/hip area. They don’t seem to think anything of it, and I certainly don’t want to risk falling into crazy Ho Chi Minh traffic.
Nice photo. Not sure this type of Taxi/uber would be good for Taiwan as Taxi’s are already cheap.
As nice as it is to hold girls or be held by them, wouldn’t holding on to the motorcycle’s frame, seat or whatever be more stable?
Are you an Ojek scooter taxi?
Thats what I always did, do feel safer.
If this is a big enough of a problem for you, don’t drive or ride a scooter. Get a car.
No Taiwanese I know of seems to have issues with this.
Not a big problem, just curious about thought from others. (I use both a car and scooter, like many others here)
I put the main weight holding the rear grab rail, if you can. Light touch on the rider’s waist or thigh to remind them you are there, and to let you show them your body angle, and to give directions by tapping or squeezing.
But most of the time just sitting and controlling your body position front to back and left to right by foot peg pressure and gripping the seat with your legs. Just like pillion on a motorcycle. as long as the rider is competent. if not, you drive instead!
yup, girls grab tight, guys take Uber, or a bus if you are poor. My bike cost me good money I do not want a heavy male lump on it. Girls welcome however.
Can they find it in a reasonable amount of time? 
If I take someone with me, I ask them to hold me either by the sides, shoulder or waist, no matter if girls or boys.
I do feel it’s safer to ride that way, as they will move their body in sync with mine and it’s easier to balance the bike.
I once took one guy that only held on to the frame, and for some reason was moving his body in opposite direction than mine. It was hard to turn corners!
