I didn’t mean to suggest that it was your opinion. Sorry about that. So, well, nah, I don’t agree with the tone of the article. I believe the aesthetic beauty perceived in the rounder eye is not related to those who already have rounded eyes being mostly Western. It’s the shape (and its palliative or economic advantages within their own community) they crave. Just my opinion, based on years of simply being me.
Actually I would agree that originally that a lot of the template for these ideas of beauty are from Western faces - round eyes, double lids, high noses, long eye lashes, paler skin. This can hardly be a coincidence, however now it has morphed ahead to be a general ‘idol’ template in Asia, mostly from TV celebrities.
Back in the mists of time, maybe. It seems more Western ego than Asian desperation to say it is still at the forefront of a persons mind when they go in for these operations. Do non-Asian people study Mandarin because they wish they were Asian? Or do they do it for some personal advantage?
In the West some parents force their children to play sports from a young age (WifeSwap does not give off a good image of the average American household) through their teen years. All children have growth spurts (in their teens) and training through them destroys the bones which are spurting. In the UK some young men can’t run as their knees are already f*cked because their parents forced them to play football (soccer) as teens in the hopes of being wealthy. Of course, it’s not all that many who are doing this, but it’s pretty much the same permanent leg damage which the parent foists onto the child, either by operation or by mental force.
Funny, we had a topic like this on WTO the other day. They pulled up four Westerners and four Asians and asked us about beauty and Asian women.
Basically, the Asians were much, much harsher on themselves than the Westerners were. The Westerners thought pretty much all the Asians that we saw were good looking (even Lucy Liu…who I personally think is as ugly as they come) but the Asians like ONE type of pretty. If you differentiated from that, you are no longer pretty. Ugly ugly ugly.
Didn’t really open my eyes on anything, just kind of reinforced what I already suspected. But it must be a sad way to live, believing in only one kind of beauty.
On the bright side, their standards for handsomeness seem to be ‘Has two legs, two arms and a face.’ O.o;
