Please help the BBC with their reporting on Taiwan

To be fair, this Cindy Sui character submits some pretty good reports. And it’s nice to see Taiwan being reported on quite regularly. The latest is this one on the doomsday predictions.

But I noticed their picture of Taipei 101 looked a bit dated. Can anyone supply them with a new one?

That is an odd choice of photo but at least the tower is almost complete. More to the point is why the BBC publishing such complete non-stories?

On the plus side, I think since Cindy Sui has been reporting for the BBC, the coverage has improved substantially. Just compare her stuff to the cringeworthy offerings Caroline Gluck and Chris Hogg a few years ago (Taiwanese “battleships”, anyone?).

And why oh why can’t someone there pick up an encyclopedia and check the facts in the Taiwan country profile?

China has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949 …

What does that mean? China did not exist before 1949? Or the Nationalists retreated to an island that they had no claim over?

Much ado about nothing…No one noticed.

Funny thing is BBC owns Lonely Planet and as a photographer who is represented by Lonely Planet, I know they have much more recent shots of 101.

Just a quick moderator note: I’ve sent certain posts about earthquake/tsunami containers here.
