All over Japan, the AirBnBs all have pocket wifi. It’s hard to find ethernet. It is cheap and reliable.
I’m wondering about tw. Do the cell phone companies require contracts for pocket wifi too? How realistic is it to get 3 months of pocket wifi service on a “landing visa” (yes, I know, taboo nomenclature)? Same issue as regular SIM cards?

Well a one month 4G card from Chunghwa Telecom you can buy at the airport without ARC, just passport, is like 1000 NTD, giving you both unlimited Internet access and limited local calls. So most people use those.
Now, those little thinghies pocket wifi are awesome, up to 3 people can use them at a time. They also have some choices for tourists but most go with the card, me thinks.
