Last night on my way home from work I got nailed in the middle of a cross walk by a motorcycle kid pulling an illegal left hand turn. I was walking my bike across the street and he hit me hard enough to destroy the front end of the bike and send me flying a few feet onto the concrete.
The best part was that there was a cop 10 feet away who saw the whole thing.
The Police oficer finished his cigarette and tried to drive away. My wife stopped him and made him come back, he muttered something about call the police and again tried to drive away. When she asked for his name he refused and sped away… going the wrong way into traffic to cross through a red light and four lanes of traffic.
WTF?
When the guy who hit me saw all this he also just took off. Leaving me with a twisted heap of metal that used to be my bike.
I was and am still shocked at the utter uselessness of this human being.

take down the license plate numbers of all vehicles involved in an accident as well as any police cars or bikes in the area as well.
my guess is that that particular policeman was NOT SUPPOSED to be there. He was probably AWOL from his assigned position and may have been playing hookey or something. Thus he didnt want to make any reports lest it be found out that he wasnt where he was supposed to be.
you should have gotten license plate numbers immediately. of the scoot that hit you as well as the police car nearby.!! And then gone to the police station to make a report. The license plate number of the bike will get him a HIT AND RUN. And the license plate number of the police car will get the police occupying it a meeting with his boss.
taiwan police are notorious for not wanting to do anything. YOu have to force them do to something. I dont know when they will actually become a real police force?
in my experience, in traffic accidents of any shape size or form, the best thing you can do is immediately start snapping cell phone/digi-cam shots of everything and everyone involved or nearby… it makes a huge difference having everything “on record” right off the bat… IMO it’s by far the best side effect of these new fangled all purpose cell phones, suddenly everyone’s accountable…
Every time I’ve been hit badly enough to land me on the ground I’ve been too shocked for a few minutes to do anything but dribble… hence the investment in a rolling camera setup.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Completely unsurprised to hear about the lack of actions from the Taiwan LEO on scene.
Slight consolation, but funny story.
this afternoon, on our daily walk, the youngcowboy and I came to a large school that was preparing for the end of day. Parents arriving and waiting for their children, large buses coming into the parking lot to pick-up children…that sort of thing.
At the entrance there was a filthy (very dirty) PD car setting there. Lights flashing, engine running…just setting empty. We had to wait for buses pulling in so I began looking for the Officer…I spotted him over next to the “guard post” chatting up a female teacher or something.
I began to notice the police car making noises, stuttering…missing…coughing…then I recognized the noise. It was running out of gas!
I pulled the boy to the side and told him what was happening as it finally sputtered to a herky-jerky halt. We both began laughing like crazy. The lights also began getting dim and flashing slower so it looks like it had a crappy battery also.
We finally walked on up the street and I can just imagine the Officer coming out and seeing the lights barely lit and trying to start the engine. Running the last bit of juice out of the battery…and then having to explain why he needs a tow back to the station.

Our tax dollars hard at work
Why do people accept this ? I went to the police station to lodge a complaint, what retard rodeo that was. No I am on a mission to actually find a cop who does his job.
Does anybody know who I would contact to get that footage from the street cam, it would have caught the whole thing.
As for the advice about license plates: Yes you are correct but after the concrete slapped me I was a little blurry for a few mins and the cop obviously took off to avoid having his plate taken. Plus I was a little stunned standing there with the cop escaping the scene in one direction and the driver escaping in the other, you know?
:s
Shifty, sorry for your trouble.
First, a question: you were with a push bike or motorbike?
I’ve told the story about riding a push bike along a main street
and being hit by a blue truck coming out of a parallel parking spot
so hard he cracked the frame of the bike.
Been wearing a helmet since a previous hospital stay
for a concussion so I just bounced off the pavement.
By the time I was picking myself up the truck
was driving away.
I’ve had a couple of motorbike spills induced by others,
so I now carry a disposable camera at the ready in my pack.
As has been said, if you’re a little woozy the perpetrators
have absconded by the time you’re able to take notes.
I’ve asked llary to describe his camera set up, but he’s waiting
for the patent.
The boy scout motto is “Be prepared”.
" if it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all. "

HAHA great story!! TAiwan cops playing loose these days. I think they need a new police chief. One who can and will shape up the force.
As an ex-U.S. cop I can tell you that cops are just like everyone else. They want to stay in low profile. Many have to appear in court on their own time to testify. These events often last for many appearances and greatly interfere with family life. All cops know on what day a ticket will appear in court. If a vacation , day off, or family event is pre-planned, well, you get the picture. Three monkeys. Hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil. They just want what everybodyelse will have.
However, we have all seen the extreme of these desires. Cops riding their copmobiles without helmets, right turns on red, running red lights, etc. Ya, I know it pisses me off too. But, check their pay. (Many don’t think that is justification) If you are paid shit for salary, how would you act. Is it a joke? Or a real endeavor?
When police are paid a living wage, you will see them act as real police. Some try but are quietly summoned to a backroom and told to “get real”.
This is Taiwan. They just want to do their job as best they can without getting themselves in a world of shit. Do what you can with video and cameras to protect yourself but don’t expect miracles. They are just like us - trying to get by.
well luckily a lot of big city cops in the USA have starting salaries of 70,000 us dollars now. And quickly rise up to even over 100,000 us dollars with overtime. So at least that is not a bad wage. The Taiwan coppers are paid higher then average already i think? And if not , certainly should be. WE need a force thats paid well and professional and can do the job. They need to get real. A cops job is tough, but a taiwan taxi drivers job is probably worse, and if they are not out there 12 hours a day, they just wont make ends meet. Cops need to get real too. NO doubt there are a lot of good cops who do a great job. just some jokers need to shape up.
I don’t usually post profanities but the fucking police forces of this world are full of nasty nasty fuckers who want nothing better than to fuck you up. (Tom accepts that some coppers aren’t assholes.)
Anyway, here’s a little something from Comptons most wanted…
Right about now NWA court is in full effect.
Judge Dre presiding in the case of NWA versus the police department.
Prosecuting attourneys are MC Ren Ice Cube and Eazy muthafuckin E.
Order order order. Ice Cube take the muthafuckin stand.
Do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth
and nothin but the truth so help your black ass?
Why don’t you tell everybody what the fuck you gotta say?
Fuck tha police
Comin straight from the underground
Young nigga got it bad cuz I’m brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority
Fuck that shit, cuz I ain’t tha one
For a punk muthafucka with a badge and a gun
To be beatin on, and throwin in jail
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell
There is more, but I’m sure you all know the words already.
cops in Taiwan are very well paid… I forget where, but we discussed this in a thread before and SatelliteTV posted the links, but the bottom line is starting fresh out the “academy” from the first month a Taiwan cop’s salary is NT$55,000, easily reaching NT$80-100k within a couple of years, and that’s before benefits, tax breaks, hong baos, bribes, etc. etc. … by comparison, your average university graduate office lady would start at about NT$20-25k a month…
I’ve heard the old “cops are people too” cop out (all week, try the veal) but nobody’s forcing them to be cops, if they don’t want to do the job that comes with the salary and the uniform, f*cking quit and become building security desk jocky, at least in that field sitting on your ass, drinking tea and doing nothing is the job description…
as far as Taiwan’s concerned, I agree with Tom(NWA)Hill… f*ck the police…
