Political asylum

How to obtain political asylum in the Republic of China?

Be the sort of person the government thinks is very important. Otherwise you’re screwed. Or at least that seemed to be the case as of 2003. Perhaps things have changed since then; but I doubt it.

Being stateless, from Tibet … maybe Myanmar …

ROC/Taiwan is not a country. Hence, there is no political asylum law.

What an odd thing to say. ROC/Taiwan has its own legislature passing its own laws. It is entirely conceivable that they could have passed a political asylum law before, or after, the current situation arose, just as they pass other national legislation that only applies to “real countries”, since the ROC legislature and government act in the belief that it is a country. In other words, there must be other reasons than the current status of the ROC/Taiwan for the fact that there is no political asylum law in Taiwan. It’s a bit like saying that “the ROC/Taiwan is not a country. Hence there is no [insert anything you want that doesn’t exist in Taiwan]”.

Weird as it may sound, not everything in Taiwan can be explained by saying that “ROC/Taiwan is not a country”.
