Polling on same sex marriage referendum

Has their been any polling on the equal marriage votes? I couldn’t find any on Wiki or English news sites.

  • Same sex marriage is A-okaaay
  • Not in my backyard

I don’t know what the deal is right now with marriage equality in Taiwan. I thought it was all set to happen in 2019, but now there’s protests against it or something idk?

Typical government bullshit. If you government dickheads can’t even pass some simple marriage equality law, how are we ever going to fix the actual important issues Taiwan is facing. ( I know marriage equality is a very important issue to some, I’m just ranting )

There have been protests in favor and against. There was a recent Pride Day festival with high turnout in favor of legalization. The protests against have been organized by Christian fundamentalists (I know, who’da thunkit?), but they only make up like 5% of the population, so I don’t know why the politicians pay any attention to them.

The opinions of minority groups should be ignored?

For Christian fundamentalists, I’m happy to make an exception. Normal Christians are fine, but fundamentalists are awful whether they’re Muslim, Christian or Jewish. Fundies are fanatics who try to convert those to their beliefs, and at best condemn and disrespect those who refuse… at worst, well…

I guess it’s kinda ok.

There are many fundamental views, and they aren’t always religious. It feels a tad unfair to pick and choose which ones are acceptable. People who fundamentally believe that approximately 1% of men who identify as women are women is an example.

I feel that ignoring the views of, say, 5% of fundamental Christians is a bit off. Debating with them is fine. Probably no consensus can be reached, but it’s a step up from saying they are flat out wrong and should therefore be ignored.

I suppose the issue is whose views are ignored out of hand as opposed to whose views are blindly accepted.

Yes.
That’s democracy for you, opinion of majority and rights of the minority.

Depends on the ideological minority (and I’m only talking about ideological minorities here, which are fair game). Crazed religious fundamentalists should be ignored in the same way that racists should be ignored, or the ravings of a lunatic should be ignored.

Sentiments should be respected, but not imposed to other people.

It’s like liking or disliking people. Why some people can’t accept that some others don’t like gay people? as long as they don’t discriminate against them it should be alright. Some people don’t like riches, some other people don’t like Canadians, some other people don’t like chocolate. And nobody makes a fuss out of that.

Of course, the ideological minorities you describe as lunatics think the same about other minorities. Such as transgender. Things gets tricky when we try to decide who should be ignored.

It all depends on which philosophy thinks it’s OK to oppress others. I see certain fundamentalist and political groups advocating stripping others of their rights, but I don’t see LGBT people doing that.

Well they do, although I doubt you would view dictating what language other people must use as oppression. However, some people do and that’s where it’s difficult to reach an objective conclusion. Basically, your position is that you get to decide what defines oppression and, therefore, which ideologies are oppressive and should be ignored.

I go by the motto “live and let live.” If your beliefs or “living” starts interfering with how others live though, that’s when bets are off. Certainly we shouldn’t respect people like ISIS, the Westboro Baptist Church or National Socialists (aka Nazis).

We shouldn’t respect/accept people who are intolerant of others.

Careful… I was banned before for something like that…

Its not only the insane Christians, its all the ultra religious groups here banding against gay marriage. Most are using the other agenda of sex education in elementary school to confuse easily confused simpletons into thinking that gay marriage leads to teaching.young children about gay sex and perversion. Or the aids debate and.foreigners. though they don’t quite understand any foreigner with aids or hiv is deported and not given health insurance. Dumb people brainwashing dumber people. Its the same group in politics (kmt) that advertise their want for whipping on sign boards. You’de think its funny if it wasn’t so real how easily manipulated the population is.

Smart people: PLEASE VOTE

I think this is not true anymore. They don’t deport people with HIV/AIDS

Personally, I do not have a particular interest in the result. I see a gay individual as no different to someone who may have red hair or green eyes. No issue .
You are , one the one hand , condemning people who disagree with your viewpoint , as “insane”, “simpletons”,'Dumb", “manipulated”,as though a difference of opinion ( to your own ) should not be allowed ? There is freedom for you to canvas your ideas, and there should be freedom for them to express theirs. They may seem ridiculous and not reasonable to many, but you have to be tolerant if you ever expect them to be reasoned with , in the long term. To label anyone , as you do , will not work well , and may well paint

you

as being intolerant . Just my opinion.

It would be an issue, however, if the government forbade redheads from getting married.
