Poor Dog from SPCA Needs A Foster

Please contact Connie Chiang at connie.chiang@spca.org.tw

An update. We took the dog to the vet, turns out she has Distemper. This is
a highly contagious disease, but ONLY TO DOGS.
She needs to stay at the vet’s for observation, there’s a chance she might
not make it. There’s no cure for this disease.
However, there are dogs who have recovered, depends on their immune system.

Because we don’t have a shelter and vet bills are very expensive (to board
the dog), we need a place for the dog to stay where she can
rest properly. This place has to be a person’s house WITH NO OTHER DOGS.
(cats and other animals are fine).

Sorry to say but it’s not just a place to rest. One of my dogs I took in had distemper and it took more than a month before it was clear she made it … and I’m talking about mild distemper, she didn’t vomit, neither had diarrhea … at first it seems as she was going to be fine … than after a week or so she started refusing food so I had to feed her a few times a day … dogs with distemper also can have convulsions and other symptoms … there is not one part in a dogs body that can not be attacked, everything is possible.

My dog was on very heavy antibiotics (tablets and intravenous), anti convulsion and other medicine (anti-vomiting)

My dog is fine now but she has some nervous system damage and chews all day and has some nerve twinkling at some muscles …

Anyways, before considering taking the dog, know that it’s not going to be an easy ride.

I hope the dog will make it, I know it’s possible … especially in older dogs. Puppies die more often.

Or maybe a sponsor for the funds required?

The plight of dogs and cats on Taiwan is just so overwhelming…

I paid about 10-15K NT$ … just to give an idea of the cost

During the healing process there were complications with a mite infection due to the diminished immune system … which took a few months to get rid off.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Belgian. Well, I guess it would be hard to take on this burden for an animal that you don’t already love…

I did … it’s a gamble tho …
