I really wonder why Bush hasn’t sent troops in the restore order after this disaster. I realize that the people are mired in poverty but Bush really should do something. The police are obviously overwhelmed.
After all…it’s about the children.
Officials described the behaviour of some of the scavengers taking goods from the Napoli wreck as “despicable”.
One said some had put their children’s lives in danger by leaving them on the beach in gale force winds as they plundered open containers in the dark.
Acting Receiver of Wreck Mark Rodaway said coastguard officers were wasting time dealing with people when they should be clearing pollution.
He said: "The situation deteriorated overnight with over 1,000 people, during gale force conditions on a rising tide, prising open containers that had actually come ashore sealed and contributing to the environmental difficulties that we are all facing.
“Frankly, the scenes that I witnessed on the beach late last night were despicable. Personal belongings, not goods that were for sale, of people that were perhaps moving to South Africa, were being rifled through and strewn on the beach.”
Tough shit really. Taking salvage is not against the law, although not declaring anything you take home is.
It’s a case of “finders keepers, loser’s weeper’s”
While I think that looters leaving their kids on the beach in the dark is not the correct thing to do, it’s totally up to them.
In any case, they’re not looters, they’re salvagers, and the difference between looting and salvaging in the eye’s of the law is pretty stark.
The police are there to keep the peace only. If Bush sent troops, we’d just remind them that they are not dressed accordingly. If they want to visit England, and in particular, London, then they should be wearing white trainers, khaki shorts, t-shirts, fanny packs and a baseball cap so they can be recognised and avoided by the indigenous people who speak English.

Besides…it’s a long tradition in those parts…whose to argue with tradition
Bush’s grandfather was the second cousin once removed of the Ayatollah Khomeini who was also a Mason as was Ariel Sharon. All three were members of the Grand Masonic Lodge located in Cornwall. A Ley Line bisects the Grand Lodge.
If you carry on up the beach from where that photo was taken, you get to a decent cave in the cliffs, which probably used to link through to an old mine further inland. I think it may have been used by smugglers at some point. There was quite a tradition of wrecking and smuggling in those parts. However, I’m sure this particular vessel wasn’t lured in by lights from the coast.
