JAKARTA, Indonesia - Police and witnesses say they heard an explosion as a commercial airliner was flying over western Indonesia and found debris scattered near a shopping mall.

Media reports, meanwhile, said that a Quantas Airbus 383 made an emergency landing in Singapore soon after dumping fuel.

Just found this. Rather conflicting.

Very conflicting, especially as there are reports of debris landing in Batam.

Now saying it’s just landed safely albeit with smoke pouring out of an engine.

A380s being a bit of a drama queen today. Fire, dropping engine parts and all.

just a usual blown engine and a fuel dump and land again. A bit of engine paneling was blown off.

No big drama

Uncontained engine failures with parts from the explosion ripping through the wing isn’t “just a usual blown engine”, is it? Seems pretty dramatic to me. :idunno:

Qantas had another plane with problems yesterday, a 747-400 had to land in Singapore, also a burning engine. Might have to do with the volcanic eruptions in Indonesia.

Such a big plane being a drama queen, tsk tsk.

Well its not trivial. RollsRoyce the engine makers stock lost a coupla billion. But I reckon they will get to the crux of the problem. They simply HAVE to.
