Power strip safety

Right now I have my bedroom dehumidifier plugged into a power strip. I could conceivably shuffle things around and plug it directly into the wall if that’s safer. But as it stands it’s only sharing the power strip with a dinky little lamp, a dinky little electric fan, and my emergency light that comes on during power outages.

I ran it for the first time yesterday and nothing burst into flame. But it has me wondering about power strip safety in general. What are some good rules of thumb?

don’t see if it can float while you are taking a bath

can I clean the dust out with a fork?

I think my computer room has 4 tiers of power bars, and so far no problems.
Go for 5 and let us know how it goes.:+1:

The bar should have a power rating, and so does your appliance. If the latter’s is below the former’s you should be fine. Cascading bars, extension cords etc. Should be avoided though (resistances add up)
