Hi folks,

I recently started work at a private school in Taiwan and through a bit of online research discovered that there is a thing called the 學校法人及其所屬私立學校教職員退休撫卹離職資遣條例 (“Private School Staff Retirement, Bereavement, Severance Act”).

I asked my school and they said foreign teachers are eligible but they assumed we weren’t interested and haven’t automatically enrolled us in the scheme (we can speculate on their motives another time, right now I’m just concerned with what I am entitled to and how much I should reveal to the other foreign staff at my school).

What experience have others had of private school pensions and withdrawing money from them? For example, if I did not stay in Taiwan till retirement age, could I get my money from the fund or would I only be able to access it at retirement age?
