Progressive capitalism

OK, here we go…

This is a standard right-wing tactic, anything that requires government involvement in the form of taxes or regulations is labelled socialist; unless of course the taxes collected are used to bungle war efforts or build more prisons and highways, or unless the regulations imposed put people inside those prison for minor drug offenses. Big business has no problem with big government, at least not so long as big government is working for them.

Right…

Well, post a definition of socialism and then give us a point by point description of how much you want to raise taxes, what you want to spend it on, who will pay and what kind of regulations you want and for which industries and let us be the judge as to whether they are socialist or now…

Yawn. Weak case so back to the “bungled” war effort. The war was a huge success and accomplished its goals all in less than three weeks. The “occupation” is proving more difficult and was controversial to begin with since it invovled the much dreaded “nation-building.”

relevance?

another myth. Prove that our prisons are full mainly because of “minor” drug-related crimes…

Why not? It is not up to Big Business any more than Big Unions or Big Teachers or Big Government advocates to lobby for the other side. It is UP TO US the tax payers and citizens to stop this kind of nonsense. Quick question: Which party is most against big government and spending for failed welfare policies or corporate welfare or agricultural subsidies alike. You are setting up the same old tired strawmen and contributing nothing new to this debate… as usual…

You gotta give up on your “prove it prove it” blankie fred. It’s been embarrassing for some time now.

The right just gave a huge tax break to the wealthiest one percent of your population. There is no dispute about this. Heck, grinning mimby doesn’t even consider the top 1% the elite, he considers it his base, and it therefore makes good economic sense to give to the rest of your population to give them a tax break? :idunno:

Meanwhile prison construction is a huge growth industry and most of the people who go to prison are poor. We all just “know” this see cause we watch CNN and BBC and read the New York Times and stuff like that.

Technically speaking though you are right about the “war” “occupation” distinction though. Or at least you “were” right. These days politicians, historians, linguists and other such luminary types are discussing whether “civil war” isn’t the more accurate term these days.

Oh really? Embarrassing? To whom? Those who cannot answer? Every time I have been challenged or the vast majority, I have coughed up statistics or links to support my arguments. Are you saying that you cannot? I hardly see how not supplying evidence or links to support your arguments is somehow to be desired or the norm here. I realize that given your weak educational background that this is the kind of undisciplined approach that you and others of your ilk might have to a discussion but sorry, I do not intend to join that group. IF I make a claim and then cannot support it, I will withdraw it. You are seeming to suggest that we need to just rely on your “views” or “feelings” on the subject. Sorry, mister but I ain’t goin’ to do that.

No, the dispute is on how it affected the economy. Given that the US economy is outstripping all others in economic growth and because of this growth, unemployment is again at record lows, technological advancement is proceeding full pace and the government coffers are recovering nicely, the question becomes, was it the right economic policy? I think it was. Why not discuss that or how much the top tax payers already pay as a percentage of total tax revenues?

Well, apparently it works better than the socially “minded” approaches adopted in other countries or if you assume that social “equality” by making everyone the same (if poorer) is better than greater inequality while making everyone richer. How do you account for the fact that African Americans (one of the groups constantly trumpeted by concerned citizens from other nations) are richer per capita than the much vaunted Swedes? Hmmm? So equality in poverty is better than inequality with greater wealth? You could certainly argue for that, but you will not find Americans the class warriors that bedevil other nations.

Yes, they are poor and what is the number one determinant of poverty in the US? race? education? single-parent familes? Guess what? The last answer is the correct one followed by poor education. So, I assume that you are now agreeing to sign up to Republican sponsored programs like welfare reform to reduce single parent families, for school vouchers to ensure that even poor, minority children get a good education and by getting churches and other religious and community institutions more involved in ensuring that the children in ANY neighborhood have a sufficient public support and mentoring base to ensure excellence? I mean we have seen how the alternatives, the War on Poverty works right? Funny that so many are so against Bush for his stupid war on an idea, war on a condition, yet, the same people are still trying to fight the war on poverty as if 40 years and $9 trillion with no appreciable effects are somehow a winning formula.

Well, at least some of us can link to one or another of these sites to actually post articles or information that have a direct bearing on our statements. You should try it sometime. It makes for a more effective discussion.

Technically? Haha. I am usually right and you are usually wrong. Remedial education might be a good option for you though. I strongly suggest that you take a short course on critical reading and effective writing. Regardless of whatever job you hold or career that you intend to pursue, such skills will always prove vital. Later, if you like, you can go on to do effective presentations or discussions. Up to you. But right now, you are not up to the task. And laziness should never be rewarded just because it might “hurt” someone’s “feelings.” That, as Bush called it is the “Bigotry of Soft Expectations” and given that I have hope for everyone, even you, I intend to hold you to higher standards. So get cracking and start posting some links to support your views rather than rambling on as if you were some bore on a bar stool, expounding his views on UFOs and aliens. They REALLY do exist you know. The US government is hiding their spaceships…

This is like grade three. Are you my daddy?

Anyway, if links to statistics or reports would be such a brilliant contribution to this debate why not go on and post some yourself? I’ll point out that whatever you posted was merely a economic report and not neccesarily related to quality of life or a sense of purpose or satisfaction. You’ll get confused because you always thought that money equalled happiness and we will be at an impasse again. You’ll attempt to get over said impasse by referring to my lack of educational qualifications again and we will finally understand that what you meant by irony all this time wasn’t irony in the sense that you meant something other than what you were saying, but irony in the sense of unexpected result. The unexpected result of course is that with all your education and experience you could remain so fundamentally ignorant.

This one teaches me nothing.”

Grade 3? Did you even get that far? Your daddy? Oh Christ, there goes my theory on eugenics…

I certainly think that while many on this forum would disagree with my views, few would ever suggest that I am not capable of or have not supplied tons of links to buttress my views. In fact, the complaint would be quite the contrary.

That is YOUR point. Why should I prove anything there.

:loco:

I am glad to see you have finally come around to my thinking regarding this problem.

Yes, I am sure that is what the general consensus is. haha

Thanks jaboney. It’s a treat when it all comes together like that. And of course alot of credit is due to fred as well. He is a rare creature, so persistant, so knowledgable and so bloody wrong all the time. For the red neck liberal such as myself he is the perfect target.
