Richard, I would be interested in your opinion on property rights of foreign spouses in Taiwan.
A Taiwanese citizen and a foreign spouse own a house and a couple of rice paddies which are registered in the Taiwanese spouse’s name. As a holder of a JFV would the foreign spouse have any estate or inheritance rights, namely to the house or the agricultural land. Would the government consider the JFV no longer valid if the Taiwan spouse is deceased? Would they cancel the visa? Current regulations forbid foreigners from owning agricultural land, so would the goverment take the land without compensation? Also if they cancelled the JFV, the foreign spouse would be without an ARC and could not register the house. Could the government take the house as well!
