I have only been in Taiwan for 2 years, teaching in the public schools (same school). This semester I was due to switch to a Taichung schoo;. However, I needed to ask the school to wait for several weeks as I was sick over CNY and they pulled out.
That meant I was effectively stuck in Taiwan without a job at a difficult time. I have a PHD and that is not really a help with a lot of language schools (private). The agency says they’re still looking for something late this semester and will anyway, put me in the hat for next semester. I can easily survive for a few months–or even to the end of the year–on savings–but using up savings is never a good idea. I am trying to set up a lot of private tutorials and I have a couple this weekend. But I have a few questions.
- What’s the best way to get, say. 10 hours part time?
- Where is it best to advertise for tutorial work?
- If time starts to lie heavy on my hands are there volunteer organizations I can work for for a few months. I approached the Buddhist monastery Fo Guang Shan and they are not enthusiastic during the pandemic.
I guess these questions are mostly directed at long term residents.
Thanks.
