My wife got back from a school meeting this evening quite shocked to hear that our daughter’s school, as part of their budget, gives money to local politicians trying to get elected. These amounts weren’t large, a few thousand dollars each, but the whole idea seems to me about as backward as anything I’ve seen in Taiwan. Perhaps it’s so whoever gets elected will have the school’s name as a donor. Does anyone know if this is the norm in Taiwan?
My wife did try to protest this, but none of the other parents said anything and the principal quickly moved on to other matters.

That’s pretty much the way politics works in any society, but I was happy in the ignorance that the public school system wasn’t a part of it all.
You or your wife needs to report this. It’s a fraudulent use of school funds. The special prosecutors office is going nuts these days indicting people so go for it.
