Put a cap on campaign spending!

Campaign spending is out of control. Why can’t the money go to the economy, education, needy children, or other ‘causes’ rather than into bogus ads and sensory assault?

Look:

The demographics are telling.
:noway:

George Bush Cap:

alien, are you upset by all fund-rasing, or just fundraising on the republican side? humor me a moment and show a little pretend outrage for the amount of money moveon.org and soros are spending in the campaign.

It appears to me alien was talking about excessive spending, not fund-raising.

Yes. I’d like to see a cap on campaign spending.
That’s what the fundraising goes to, right? What’s the fuckin point?
Other countries seem to make do without such outrageous ad campaigns.

People are bombarded with nasty political ads back in the US for months and months. (Like every commercial break) I may NOT even turn on a TV the whole time I’m there.

a little stateside flavah:
last night ted koppel read the names of US war dead on his program, NIGHTLINE. the ownership of several ABC stations refused to air the program. it just so happens that the owner of the stations is staunch GOP. pretty sweet deal, he screens out programs that bother the GOP and then the GOP buys airtime on his stations.

simple: no political commercials. why? the parties buy ad time on the air. the owners are then beholden to the parties. such is clearly outside the “stewardship” stations are suppossed to display.

living in hawaii, the conservatives barely even tried to campaign. why? because they knew hawaii was a liberal state. scarely any dole ads on local TV but tons of Clinton. everyone knew clinton was gonna carry hawaii months before the election by a huge margin. why did they continue to buy airtime on local stations? to reward their pals.
