Not just Taiwan though - they have given a lot of countries the chop.

Woah, it’s not just Qld, may affect most states and territories. Will affect Aussie to Taiwan exchanges too if they don’t come up with another agreement.

NSW has that notice too:

Tbf, I completely agree. I would never issue directly to a Tw driving licence holder without having the holder retake a local exam. They are just completely unaware of driving safety skills besides parking (in that I give them that they are very good at it even when parking in places they should not).

Also they don’t actually know the road code. All Taiwanese I ever speak to adamantly believe that fastening the seatbelt in the back seats is not mandatory, or also it’s ok to use the phone while driving.

Me too!

Seconded, although I’d be sure to add the stipulation that they pass the local exam after taking it, to avoid arguments later…

Think I’ll send the article to my home countries DMV requesting the do the same.

It was implied, but yes, best to be specific.

A test doesn’t stop that behavior though. I remember peeling out of the test centre when I got my full licence as a teen. I had similar fun when I got my moto licence.
It’s more of an enforcement thing

Here in Canada every third person is on the phone while driving and somehow they all passed the test
