Question about APRC and remarriage

I have my APRC (from a previous marriage to a Taiwanese citizen). Now I am remarried to a Japanese citizen. Can he and his father apply for the JFRV through my APRC and be eligible for the health insurance? In other words, can a foreign spouse/family benefit from the APRC holder? And if so, what are the benefits?

If I don’t stay in Taiwan for the required 183/365 days, will I then have to start from scratch and apply for a visitor visa? I’m deciding whether it’s imperative to keep my APRC or not as I plan to live in both Japan and Taiwan. Since applying for the APRC is costly in both time and money, I don’t want to give it up so easily.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I believe your spouse may be able to. Not his father though. Your children would also be eligible If your spouse receives an ARC, he will be able get health insurance. You might see f you can get dad in on one of the long-stay programs they are promoting to Japanese. I think it’s pretty easy for Japanese to get visitor visas and stay in Taiwan since the Japanese have no-visa entry for Taiwanese.

Afraid you would have to start from scratch.I wouldn’t give it up casually either.

You can apply in advance for permission to stay outside Taiwan on an APRC and still keep it valid. If I recall correctly one application is good for two years and you can renew this permission once for another two years. After that you’d need to come back to stay at least 183 days a year.

Actually an ARC/APRC holder’s spouse and children can be brought in on a JFRV ARC. It’s not just for spouses of citizens. However, that type of JFRV confers no work rights.
